Is the new project a step forward in the history of Peter Parker?

Spider-Man is back on the screens – and once again in the form of an animated series. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was planned as a prequel to the adventures of Tom Holland's version from the MCU, but then it had to fit into the canon.

The first season consists of ten episodes, the first of which were released on January 29, and we are in a hurry to tell you what the new Spider-Man is trying to surprise viewers with.

What Is Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man About?

In order to be creative with the plot, the animated series has been transported to an alternate universe, so far away from the usual one that Peter's mentor here is Norman Osborn. What kind of future hero will grow up under his tutelage is a big question that has yet to be answered.

Even the writers were apparently not interested in going through recognizable patterns again, and they immediately threw Peter into the fresh story. And for new viewers, a few minutes before the opening credits, the creators showed the basic info, which is enough to get to know the hero.

Peter's Ordinary Life Seems Too Dull

Parker's life as a teenager seems boring. The classmates are friendly and there are no conflicts. Peter has a new love here – Pearl, a beauty three years older.

She has a good-natured, athletic boyfriend, Lonnie, who begins to resemble a ticking bomb as he develops. But this is the only school line worth paying attention to, and that is sad.

It was the struggle with mundane and understandable problems that distinguished Parker from most superheroes. And in the new animated series, there is nothing to resist. Everyone loves the guy, agrees with him, and forgives his mistakes.

Peter/Norman Storyline Keeps the Plot Intriguing

Peter's attention is vied for by his friend, Nico, and the head of Oscorp, Norman Osborn. These two characters balance the heroic and mundane aspects of Peter's life.

Unlike other characters, you don't know what to expect from these two, but there's a chance for a strong friendship or enmity to develop, keeping you interested in their interaction with Parker.

Thanks to the teacher-student interaction, at least some intrigue remains with Spider-Man's future adversaries, because with the other storylines, everything is ridiculously simple. For example, does anyone doubt that Dr. Connors will try to return a lost body part?

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Is Too Simple and Kind

The animated series turned out to be too safe. Despite the promising premise, it does not take any risks with the image of the main character and does not surprise with the plot – all the twists are read in advance.

There is no drama and tension in the show – on the contrary, there is comfort, positivity and good humor. And maybe such an approach is not so bad.
