Wyatt Russell Drops Upbeat Update as Avengers: Doomsday Clears Major Filming Milestone
Wyatt Russell fuels Avengers: Doomsday hype with a fresh update, hailing Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, and David Harbour as standouts as the release nears.
Wyatt Russell just did the Marvel thing where he says a lot without saying much, but there are a few real nuggets in there about Avengers: Doomsday. Short version: the shoot is basically wrapped, the cast is stacked, and Russell sounds genuinely pumped about what he’s seen.
Where things stand with Doomsday
In a June 8 chat with Deadline, Russell said most of the movie is in the can and he’s caught bits of internal footage. He’s keeping plot details locked up (of course), but he didn’t hide his reaction to the cut he’s seen.
"It ’s looking awesome. I haven’t seen much, but I’ve seen some of the trailers and stuff."
Translation: no spoilers, but confidence levels are high.
Who he’s praising (and why that matters)
Russell singled out three co-stars by name: Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, and David Harbour. He says Stan is doing killer work, he expects Harbour to be great, and working on set with the whole crew (Pugh included) was a blast. If you’re reading between the lines, that sounds like a lot of screen time with the Thunderbolts- adjacent circle, which tracks with where Russell’s character has been living lately.
Who Russell is playing this time
He’s back as John Walker, the decorated soldier who stirred up a lot of debate when he first showed up in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, then crossed over into Thunderbolts. Marvel’s keeping his Doomsday role under wraps, but the smart bet is Walker brings his hard-edged experience and a few Thunderbolts ties into a massive ensemble as Earth’s heroes square up against Doctor Doom. Walker’s also been evolving into a more self-aware operator, which could make him a wild card in a very crowded room.
The bigger picture: trailer buzz, huge scope, and the Russos
Ever since the trailer dropped, the chatter has only gotten louder. David Harbour has been talking up the movie too, specifically praising the Russo Brothers ’ vision and the sheer scale of the thing. He’s admitted the size of the production was intimidating at first, then pivoted to being impressed once he saw it in action. Meanwhile, hype around Robert Downey Jr.’s next move is feeding the sense that this is Marvel’s next big event. The Russos have also been teasing unexpected angles with Doom and Steve Rogers, which… yeah, raises about a hundred questions.
So, is the hype earned?
Between Russell’s 'we basically finished' update, the internal footage he says looks strong, and the cast he’s hyping (Stan, Pugh, Harbour), there’s real momentum here. If the movie sticks the landing, Avengers: Doomsday could be the biggest MCU crossover swing since Endgame.
