There's a bit of good and bad news.

Good news first: yes, Landman has been renewed for a third season. Paramount+ confirmed the renewal on 5 December 2025, shortly after Season 2 broke every viewership record the platform had. The Season 2 premiere alone pulled in over 9.2 million streaming views in its first two days — a 262% increase over Season 1 and the biggest original series premiere in Paramount+ history.

Season 2 wrapped up on 18 January 2026 with a finale that left plenty of threads dangling. Without getting too deep into spoiler territory: Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) is no longer running M-Tex Oil. He's started his own venture — CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle — which sets up an entirely new power dynamic for the next chapter. Co-creator Christian Wallace has described Season 3 as a "reset" with completely different character dynamics at play.

When does it start filming?

This is where things get a little complicated. Early reports pointed to a spring 2026 filming start, and Sam Elliott hinted at April or May. However, Billy Bob Thornton gave a more recent update in May 2026, stating that production would begin "at the end of August." Director and executive producer Stephen Kay followed up by saying cameras should roll within about a month and that the team would be cutting episodes while still shooting.

When could Season 3 premiere?

Seasons 1 and 2 both launched in November (2024 and 2025 respectively), so November 2026 would be the natural slot. With filming now pushed to late August, though, that timeline is tight. Late 2026 is still possible if post-production moves quickly, but early 2027 is the safer bet. Paramount+ has not announced an official date.

How many episodes?

Season 3 is expected to consist of 10 episodes, matching the format of the first two seasons.
