Will Rogue Join Avengers: Doomsday? Her Powers and MCU Future
Avengers: Doomsday is set to expand the MCU with the X-Men, but will Rogue appear? Discover what’s known about her possible involvement, her unique mutant abilities, and whether Anna Paquin could return to the role.
Avengers: Doomsday is gearing up to be a massive event, especially with the X-Men finally stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Fans are buzzing about which mutants will make the cut, and one name keeps coming up: Anna Marie LeBeau, better known as Rogue. But is there any real chance she’ll show up in this highly anticipated film?
The X-Men Lineup: Who’s In and Who’s Out?
So far, the confirmed roster for Doomsday includes heavy hitters like Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Beast, Nightcrawler, Gambit, and Mystique. Rogue, however, is noticeably missing from the list. According to a well-known insider who previously leaked images from Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Rogue isn’t expected to be part of the mutant team in this movie.
The insider’s post, which has since been deleted, stated:
I will say this is everything I’ve heard BEFORE the reshoots they’re planning, so maybe they could possibly be added…I personally doubt they would play any major role if they were to be added…my money is on Secret Wars.
Alongside Rogue, both Storm and Jean Grey are also reportedly not appearing in the upcoming Avengers installment.
Rogue’s Comic Book Powers: A Closer Look
Rogue stands out among mutants for her deeply tragic abilities. She can absorb another person’s life force, memories, and powers with just a touch, forcing her into a life of isolation and constant struggle with her own identity. Her relationship with Gambit eventually brings her some happiness, but her powers always come at a steep cost.
Her main ability is absorption—she can take on someone’s memories, skills, and even their superhuman traits with the briefest contact. This power once left Gambit in a coma after a kiss, a moment that revealed painful secrets about his past. Rogue’s abilities also allowed her to permanently gain Captain Marvel’s superpowers, making her even more formidable.
Beyond absorption, Rogue boasts superhuman strength, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes. She can fly and is highly skilled in acrobatics and swordsmanship, thanks to training from her brother, Nightcrawler.
Anna Paquin’s Take: Will She Return as Rogue?
Anna Paquin brought Rogue to life in the X-Men film series, including a cameo in Days of Future Past and a larger role in the Rogue Cut. It ’s been over ten years since she last played the character, but would she be open to returning?
In an interview from April 2024, Paquin said she’d be willing to reprise the role if she was simply asked. She also expressed disappointment that she never got to fly in the original films, saying,
I never got to fly, come on.
Many fans share her frustration, feeling that the movies didn’t do justice to Rogue’s full potential. However, the character did get some redemption in X-Men ’97.
If Paquin does come back for Doomsday, maybe this time she’ll finally get to soar. Would you like to see her return, or are you hoping for a new face in the role? Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
