Who killed Trevor in Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed?

Tatiana Maslany stars as Paula Saunders, a divorced New York fact-checker who pays webcam boy Trevor (Brandon Flynn) to listen to her problems — until she watches a masked man attack him live on camera.

Unusually for a murder mystery, the show hands you the answer early. Here it is.

The killer, revealed by episode 4

Trevor's killer is Dennis — his older boyfriend, played by Murray Bartlett, whose real name turns out to be Frank Budkin. The on-camera "kidnapping" was actually a staged extortion scam Trevor ran with an accomplice named Ash, but the murder that followed was very real. Episode 3 shows the audience who did it; episode 4 removes all doubt by showing exactly how:

• The alibi — Dennis checked himself into a clinic, giving him a rock-solid cover story.
• The escape — he slipped out through a window, unseen.
• The kill — he went to Trevor's house, murdered him, and cleaned the scene, leaving the body in the bathtub for Paula to find.
• The return — he was back at the clinic before anyone noticed he'd gone, then wept convincingly through his police interview.

Why Dennis did it

Money and control. Trevor wasn't a freelancer — he ran scams for Dennis's operation, which itself answered to a larger criminal syndicate headed by a woman named Cecilia. Trevor decided his cut was too small and started running side hustles of his own, including a plan to convert an old motel near a college into student lets (he'd already put down a 30% deposit). Dennis found out and silenced him.

"Well-paced, wonderfully performed, and unpredictable" is how The A.V. Club's Brian Tallerico summed up the series in 2026 — and the Trevor reveal is exactly why.

Flynn, for his part, told TV Fanatic in a 2026 interview that he was "bummed" when he learned his character's fate.

What happened after

Trevor's murder brought heat the syndicate didn't want, so Dennis was ordered to kill again — Sky — to regain their trust. He then turned on Paula, who killed him in self-defence, only for his body to vanish. By episode 7, her fingerprints had surfaced at both crime scenes and she was arrested for the murders of Trevor and Sky — the one person viewers knew was innocent of both.
