What’s ahead for X-Men ’97 season 3—cast, plot, and release date?
If you’re wondering who’s back, what’s in play, and when X-Men ’97 season 3 drops, we’ve got the rundown you’re looking for.
Work on X-Men ’97 Season 3 is already well underway. Marvel Television chief Brad Winderbaum says the team is “close to finishing” the next batch of episodes, and the studio has quietly locked in Season 4 with production set to start soon. The goal: avoid the long gap fans just sat through between the first two seasons.
Season 1 hit Disney+ in March 2024; Season 2 arrived in July 2026 . Producer Larry Houston told The Direct the holdup was a one-time stumble, not the new normal.
“Luckily, the production problems won’t occur again,” Houston told The Direct. “There was a huge gap of time between [season] one and two. They’ve learned their lessons, so with [seasons] three and four, that won’t happen again… That was a one-off.”
There’s no premiere date yet for Season 3, but with work nearing completion, an early 2027 launch is in play.
Who’s showing up
At the Season 2 premiere event, Winderbaum and director Jake Castorena said Season 3 will bring several characters from the original ’90s animated run back into the story. Castorena also hinted that Mystique and Destiny could surface. And during Marvel’s Comics to Screen panel, the team confirmed the Brotherhood of Mutants will be part of Season 3.
That opens the door for longtime foes to make animated comebacks, including:
- Blob
- Pyro
- Avalanche
- Toad
- Surge
As for where the story is headed, Marvel is keeping plot specifics under wraps. Season 2 scattered the X-Men across different eras and timelines as they fought to get home, so expect Season 3 to pick up threads from that time-tossed fallout.
Cast outlook
Marvel hasn’t officially announced the Season 3 voice lineup yet. If the core team rolls forward, listeners can likely expect many of the Season 2 voices to return:
- Ross Marquand — Professor X
- Matthew Waterson — Magneto
- Ray Chase — Cyclops
- Jennifer Hale — Jean Grey
- Alison Sealy-Smith — Storm
- Cal Dodd — Wolverine
- Lenore Zann — Rogue
- George Buza — Beast
With the Brotherhood in the mix, expect fresh casting announcements as new villains step into the spotlight.
X-Men ’97 streams on Disney+. Season 3 has no date yet, but with Marvel aiming for shorter turnarounds and Season 4 already moving toward production, the next chapter could land in early 2027.
