Harry Potter and Line of Duty fans are not the only ones who love Lee Ingleby!

Summary

  • Lee Ingleby became famous after Line of Duty, but his other roles are just as famous.
  • For example, he once starred in Harry Potter and even appeared in Doctor Who.
  • In the year 2024, Ingleby continues to appear in movies and television.

Even four years after its completion, the British series Line of Duty, created by Jed Mercurio, is still considered one of the best police procedurals. Each of the six seasons released on BBC Two and BBC One has received incredibly high ratings on review aggregators, but many people remember Season 4 as the one that kept viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end, wondering who was behind the mask of the mysterious Balaclava Man.

Throughout the season, many viewers' suspicions fell on Nicholas, Roz Huntley's husband. The corporate lawyer was under intense pressure from the police, who were trying to force the truth out of him about both Roz and the identity of Hana Reznikova's kidnapper. Suspicion fell on Nick for being inappropriately close to the crime scenes, but of course this was largely aided by the performance of the actor himself, Lee Ingleby, who gave a truly mind-boggling performance. Although his role turned out to be episodic, his character is still remembered by many Line of Duty fans.

But what is he doing now, in 2024?

The Beginning of Lee Ingleby's Career

Born in Burnley, Lancashire, England, Lee Ingleby attended the same Lancashire high school as John Simm, the famous Master from Doctor Who. They also both studied drama under the same teacher, Brian Wellock, and according to Ingleby, it was Simm's career success that inspired him to follow the same path:

'John was about six years older so we never met at school, but when he got The Lakes it said to me that someone from where I come from could do it.'

His first role was in the final season of the 1997 military drama Soldier Soldier, but a year later Ingleby made his feature film debut, starring in Andy Tennant's romantic drama Ever After. He also landed one of the lead roles in 2003's Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World with Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany.

What Has Lee Ingleby Been In

However, his greatest fame came a year later when he appeared in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as Stan Shunpike, the Knight Bus conductor who later succumbed to Lord Voldemort's will and joined the Death Eaters.

In addition, like John Simm, Lee Ingleby was also a part of Doctor Who, although he was not in the TV series, but in the audio drama Doctor Who: The Monthly Adventures, in the episode Terror Company dedicated to the Eighth Doctor. He then starred as John Bacchus in the television series Inspector George Gently, which ran from 2007 to 2017.

In 2011, he appeared in the supernatural comedy-drama series Being Human, where he played the ancient vampire Edgar Wyndham, and in the same year, he also appeared in the series with Idris Elba, Luther, where he played serial killer Cameron Pell.

After Line of Duty, his career only grew stronger, as from 2019 to 2020 he played the leading role of Detective Tony Myerscough in Criminal: UK, and in 2022, Henri II in the first season of The Serpent Queen.

Actor's Career Status in 2024

As of 2024, Lee Ingleby has appeared in only a few roles, but each of the projects with his participation is very bright. For example, this year Channel 5 released The Cuckoo, a drama series in which he played the father of the family Nick. The series is about a family that moves to the country and has to deal with a mysterious lodger named Sian (Jill Halfpenny).
