Reacher season 3, which hit Prime Video in February 2025, spends its early episodes doing something unusual: making its hero go quiet. A name keeps coming up — one that DEA agent Susan Duffy can't get Reacher to talk about.

The name is Dominique Kohl, and her story is the engine of the whole season.

Who Kohl was

Sergeant First Class Dominique Kohl (Mariah Robinson) was a military police prodigy and the first protégé Jack Reacher ever had, back in his Army CID days. He describes her to Duffy as "young but smart, capable, determined" — and calls her "a natural," which happens to be exactly how Duffy describes her own missing informant.

Kohl is mentioned across the first three episodes; her full story arrives in episode 4, fittingly titled "Dominique" (February 27, 2025 ). The season adapts Persuader, Lee Child's 2003 novel, where the character originates.

What Quinn did to her

In flashback, Reacher and Kohl build a case against Francis Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee), an intelligence officer selling national-security secrets squeezed out of a blackmailed operative. When the case is airtight, Reacher — the kind of commanding officer who doesn't hoard credit — sends Kohl to make the arrest herself, with Private Anthony Frasconi as backup. It 's meant to be the collar that launches her career.

Quinn kills Frasconi on the spot and abducts Kohl. He tortures her for the names of everyone else who knows about him; she gives him nothing, and dies for it. By the time Reacher and General Garber track Quinn down, she's already gone.

The execution that didn't take

Reacher marches Quinn to a ledge over a river, tells him her first name, shoots him in the head with a small, untraceable pistol, and lets the body drop into the current. The problem is the word "small." The low-caliber round doesn't penetrate far enough to kill, and Quinn survives — scarred, presumed dead, and free to rebuild himself as "Julius McCabe," a trafficker operating out of Maine roughly a decade later.

How the season settles it

  • Episodes 1–3 — Reacher spots "McCabe," recognizes Quinn, and goes undercover inside Zachary Beck's smuggling operation alongside Duffy's DEA team.
  • Episode 4 — the flashback lays out Kohl's death and Reacher's botched execution in full.
  • The finale — Reacher gets his second attempt at Quinn. This one takes.

For the record: nearly all of it — the arrest, the torture, the ledge, the survival — comes straight from Persuader. Lee Child wrote Reacher's worst professional mistake back in 2003. The show just finally gave it eight episodes and a face.
