What happened to Calvin in Beauty in Black traces back to one reckless affair
If you got to Beauty in Black season 2 and wondered where Calvin went, the answer is simpler than the show's usual chaos — and it all comes back to one very ill-advised affair.
Tyler Perry's Netflix soap doesn't kill Calvin off. It quietly writes him out. Here's what happened.
Calvin's exit, explained
Calvin (Shannon Wallace) was hired as driver and bodyguard to Mallory Bellarie (Crystle Stewart), the ruthless face of the family 's hair-care empire and wife of Bellarie heir Roy (Julian Horton). The reckless part: Calvin was already dating Gillian, Mallory's assistant, when he started sleeping with his own boss. The affair blew up his relationship with Gillian and poured petrol on Mallory's already loveless marriage.
Once Roy learns his wife has been sleeping with the help, he fires Calvin on the spot. That's the last we see of him — gone from the Bellarie orbit, and absent from season 2's main action.
Did Mallory fight for him?
No. In the season 1 finale, Calvin made the mistake of confessing real feelings, telling Mallory he'd fallen for her. She turned him down flat. For Mallory the affair was only ever convenient and physical — never romantic. Her priorities are her reputation and her business, in that order, so when Roy cut Calvin loose, she did nothing to save him.
The affair didn't disappear, though. It resurfaces as ammunition later in the family's civil war, when Norman uses Mallory's fling with Calvin to try to turn Roy against her.
Is Calvin dead?
No — and that's worth stressing, because "what happened to Calvin" tends to get asked as if he met a grislier fate. He didn't. One affair simply cost him everything he had at the Bellarie estate:
- His girlfriend — the fling ended his relationship with Gillian, Mallory's assistant.
- His job — Roy sacked him the moment he found out.
- His place in the family's world — with no job, Calvin had no reason to be near the Bellaries at all.
Is Shannon Wallace coming back?
Unclear. As of the second part of season 2 — which landed on 19 March 2026 — there's been no sign of Calvin returning, and once he's fired the character loses any real reason to be near the Bellaries. Shannon Wallace has moved on to other work, including a role in Jake Weber's film Shelter Me. A return isn't impossible, especially with a third and final season confirmed, but nothing points to it.
For the record: Calvin is one of the few people in Mallory's life to walk away with a pulse. Given the body count around the Bellarie family — Roy trapped in a burning mansion, club staff shot, an FBI dragnet in the finale — getting fired might be the luckiest exit going.
