What does John Cena think of James Gunn’s Peacemaker-Man of Tomorrow rumors?
With Matchbox The Movie almost here, John Cena addresses the rumor that Peacemaker might surface in Man of Tomorrow — and you’ll want to hear his answer.
Asked on a red carpet about chatter that Peacemaker might crash James Gunn ’s next Superman movie, John Cena looked genuinely stumped — and then laughed. The question came from Screen Rant, which brought up the rumor on the spot.
“When did he say this?”
That’s especially funny given how often Cena says he and Gunn text — including swapping merman emojis, a running gag born from Peacemaker. According to Cena, their conversations cover everything from Gunn’s personal life to public announcements, yet this supposed crossover hadn’t come up at all.
The speculation hasn’t come out of nowhere. Gunn has already said Peacemaker Season 2 is structured as a prelude to Man of Tomorrow, leading directly into the new Superman film. The series left Christopher Smith in a shaky spot, which only fuels theories about how he could plug into the broader DC universe.
As for the movie itself, Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow teams David Corenswet’s Superman with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor in a DCU packed with familiar faces — including a John Stewart Green Lantern. Filming wrapped in August 2026 , and the movie is dated for July 9, 2027 .
