'VisionQuest' nears: Paul Bettany can't picture Vision without Wanda
With his solo Marvel turn on the horizon, Paul Bettany isn’t cutting Wanda out of Vision’s story—and he’s not subtle about it.
In a recent conversation with Buro 24/7, Paul Bettany said the new Disney+ series VisionQuest keeps Wanda Maximoff front and center in Vision’s mind, even if she isn’t physically by his side. Bettany and co-star Ruaridh Mollica — who plays Tommy Maximoff — talked about how Wanda’s absence shapes father and son, and why the Scarlet Witch still anchors Vision’s idea of what it means to be human.
“It’s hard for me to imagine Vision without Wanda,”
Mollica told the outlet he discovers his on-screen mother through Vision’s memories and love for her, describing that process as poignant and, for him, “beautiful.” As he explained it, Tommy Maximoff carries pieces of Wanda while learning who she was through his father’s eyes — a dynamic the show leans into.
Where we left them
- When the Westview Hex collapsed in WandaVision, the conjured version of Vision and the twins faded with it.
- Before they disappeared, Wanda and Vision parted with a promise that they’d find each other again “in some form.”
- The rebuilt White Vision, having recovered his memories, flew off into the world — the thread VisionQuest picks up.
Could they reunite?
Speculation has already turned to Avengers: Doomsday, where a Wanda–Vision reunion could fit if the story borrows from the comic arc Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, which finds Wanda in Latveria and intertwined with Doctor Doom. Reports have even linked Robert Downey Jr. to a Doom role, which would set up an on-screen crossing with Bettany if it comes to pass. None of that is confirmed by Marvel, and Elizabeth Olsen’s return as Wanda has not been announced.
For now, VisionQuest puts Vision — and the shadow Wanda still casts — back in focus on Disney+. Marvel has not confirmed Olsen for the series or any plot ties to Avengers: Doomsday.
