At BookCon on Saturday, April 18, the 37-year-old author revealed a new two-book Divergent project that runs alongside the original timeline and plays out a giant what-if: what if Tris never jumped to Dauntless in the first place?

That decision drops her into the sights of an underground rebellion and in the orbit of a mysterious boy who goes by a number instead of a name.

A fourth movie, Ascendant, was supposed to wrap things up, but it was scrapped after Allegiant’s soft box office. Given that history, it’s probably smart they’re leading with the books here; again, no word yet on adapting this new arc.
