Upcoming romantic thriller 'Remain' reveals full cast, including Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor
Romance gets perilous in Remain, where Jake Gyllenhaal teams with Phoebe Dynevor amid secrets, danger, and an ensemble built to keep you guessing.
The unusual creative pairing is baked right into the project: Remain was developed together by M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks. Sparks is writing the novel while Shyamalan wrote and directed the movie, so the love story and the supernatural elements were conceived in tandem rather than retrofitted from a preexisting book.
The setup
Jake Gyllenhaal plays Tate, a New York architect who heads to Cape Cod to design a summer home for his best friend after completing treatment for acute depression. He’s still carrying the grief of losing his sister, whose final confession about seeing spirits rattles the rational worldview he clings to.
At a historic bed-and-breakfast, Tate meets Phoebe Dynevor’s Wren. Their pull toward each other has the sweep of a classic beachside romance, but Shyamalan steers the story into eerier waters as Wren pushes Tate to reconsider life, death, and what may linger in between. True to form, Shyamalan also pops up on screen himself, playing a character named Nash.

(with Marriage Story among her later highlights); Dizzia is familiar from Orange Is the New Black, The Good Wife and The Undoing; Ifeachor’s TV runs include Doctor Who and Legends of Tomorrow; and Walters arrives from Top Boy and Netflix ’s Adolescence.
Warner Bros. is set to release Remain in theaters on February 5, 2027 .
