Tracker: what happened to Teddi, and why she left without a goodbye
For a show about finding missing people, Tracker did something odd: it lost one of its own and barely mentioned it.
Teddi Bruin was part of Colter Shaw's small team from the very first episode — one of two handlers feeding him cases from behind a screen. Then season 2 arrived and she simply wasn't there. Here's what happened to Teddi, and why there was no send-off.
Teddi is written out between seasons
Teddi Bruin (Robin Weigert) was one of Colter's (Justin Hartley) two handlers, working with her wife Velma (Abby McEnany) to find cases and run background. After season 1's 13 episodes, Weigert didn't return as a regular.
The show explains it in the season 2 premiere, "Out of the Past": Velma says Teddi is out of town caring for her sick mother, and that she was only getting in the way.
Teddi herself never appears. Later, showrunner Elwood Reid confirmed the bigger reason — Teddi and Velma had separated.
Why she left without a goodbye
Here's the strange part. Teddi's final appearance was actually the season 1 finale — but nobody knew it was a farewell at the time, so no send-off was ever written for her. Just an empty chair. She'd already faded out of the back half of season 1, missing from most of those episodes, so by the time season 2 needed to account for her, the show could only do it secondhand, through Velma. The breakup itself is never discussed on screen.

Why Robin Weigert actually left
That's the in-universe version. The real reason has never been officially confirmed. TVLine reported in August 2024 that Weigert wouldn't be a series regular for season 2; neither CBS nor the studio gave a reason, and Weigert hasn't spoken about it since.
The leading theory is practical — Tracker is built around Colter, the handler role was small, and a long-running network show would have tied her up for years. Reenie (Fiona Rene), already a season 1 regular, simply slid into the handler slot.
Is Teddi coming back — and who else has gone?
Because Teddi was written out rather than killed, the door is technically open, but it doesn't look likely — she's been quietly dropped rather than kept warm for a return. And she wasn't the last to leave Colter's orbit:
- Teddi (Robin Weigert) — gone after season 1; explained as caring for her mother, later revealed as a split from Velma.
- Velma (Abby McEnany) — written out ahead of season 3.
- Bobby (Eric Graise) — also exited before season 3, his tech duties handed to his cousin Randy.
That leaves Hartley and Fiona Rene as the only original leads. Tracker has been slimming its cast around Colter for a while now, and has already been renewed for a fourth season.
For the record: Robin Weigert landed on her feet, turning up as a cult leader in Will Trent's third season in 2025 — and she's still best known as Calamity Jane from Deadwood, a role no exit can take from her.
