Tom Holland Says MJ and Ned Bonding Without Peter Made Him ‘Really Jealous’
Tom Holland says he felt "really jealous" filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day — and one behind-the-scenes prep left him "really pissed off" — but what pushed his buttons?
On set for Spider- Man: Brand New Day , Tom Holland says he spent more time watching than web-slinging whenever scenes paired up MJ and Ned without Peter. In an interview with Nandoleaks, he described being parked “off in the corner” while Zendaya and his on-screen best friend shot lighter moments together — a behind-the-scenes vibe that matched Peter’s new reality.
“I was really jealous… i got really jealous like,” Holland said on Nandoleaks.
Zendaya explained in the same chat that, after the memory wipe at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the characters are now living separate lives — and you feel that distance immediately. Holland joked that when he tried to jump into their between-takes chatter, he’d get a friendly nudge that it was “a bit of an us thing,” underscoring how isolated Peter is this time around.
The dehydration misfire
Holland also owned up to a physical gamble that backfired. Speaking on the Dish podcast, he said he tried the kind of short-term dehydration routine athletes use before weigh-ins, hoping it would make months of gym work pop on camera.
“It’s like what athletes do to try and lose weight really quickly. But one of the side effects of it is that it really accentuates the work you’ve been doing in the gym. And for me, it didn’t do any of that. It just really pissed me off cuz I was so thirsty,” Holland told the Dish podcast.
The experiment was for a hot tub sequence that also features Florence Pugh, one of the movie ’s breezier beats amid the superhero stakes. The conversation veered into Pugh’s cooking, her grandmother’s cocktail recipe, and playful teases about appearances from The Bear cast — plus chatter about Scorpion ’s long-anticipated return.
