Tom Holland’s Doing All His Own Tap in the Fred Astaire Biopic

Fresh off a whirlwind run that’s included The Odyssey and a full-court press for his next Spider- Man outing, Tom Holland says the Fred Astaire project he’s been developing is up next — and he’s training to dance it the old-fashioned way. On Good Morning America, Holland said he loves chasing the toughest jobs, calling Astaire the “next project” on his docket and noting he’ll head straight back to the dance studio as soon as the promo grind wraps.

“Desire to use no doubles, to do all of the dancing, to shoot those dances in one shot – how [Astaire] would have done it”.

Holland added that the first rehearsals have already started — and they were a reality check as much as a spark.

“I did my first few rehearsals recently, and it both filled me with excitement and absolute dread because I’ve got so much work to do to try and do Fred proud,” he said.

That approach strips away modern safety nets — no body double, no quick-cut camouflage — as he steps into the legacy of Fred Astaire, one of Hollywood ’s purest on-screen dancers. Holland framed the challenge as the point: doing it all, in camera, in extended takes.
