A new Spider- Man: Brand New Day clip is floating around online, and it does exactly what you think it would do to the internet: it name-checks Tobey Maguire’s Peter 2, nods to those infamous organic webs, and sends the rumor mill into overdrive about who might actually show up in this thing.
The clip: a quick Peter 2 nod, plus organic webs
The snippet making the rounds briefly includes Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and shows Tom Holland ’s Peter testing out newfound organic webbing. While he is figuring it out, he basically gives himself a pep talk by invoking Peter 2.
"Organic webs. Peter 2 had them. He was cool. You’re cool."
If that rings a bell, it is because Spider-Man: No Way Home turned Maguire’s organic webbing into a whole bit. Tobey’s Peter casually revealed he does not need web shooters, and both Holland’s Peter and Andrew Garfield’s Peter 3 fired off questions like they were at a science fair. That goofy back-and-forth became one of No Way Home’s stickiest multiverse moments.
So, is Tobey actually back this time?
Depends on what you mean by "back." The new clip clearly calls out Peter 2 and flashes Maguire’s Spider-Man, but Marvel has not officially confirmed Tobey Maguire for Brand New Day. At this point, it looks more like the movie is acknowledging him than staging the grand entrance fans have storyboarded in their heads.
Daredevil chatter, and why it is getting louder
Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock is another name getting tossed around for Brand New Day, thanks to his easy chemistry with Peter in past MCU appearances. Again: no official confirmation from Marvel. The speculation picked up because the Hand — classic Daredevil foes — seem to be in the mix here. The trailer shows Spider-Man throwing down with members of the Hand, which makes a Daredevil appearance feel plausible, not promised.
Where things stand right now
- Tobey Maguire: Rumored, not confirmed. The circulating clip briefly features his Spider-Man and has Holland’s Peter referencing Peter 2 and organic webs.
- Tom Holland: In the clip, he tests new organic webbing and uses the Peter 2 comparison to psych himself up.
- No Way Home context: Maguire’s Peter famously has organic webs; Holland and Garfield’s Peters were fascinated, and the exchange became a standout multiverse gag.
- Daredevil (Charlie Cox): Rumored, not confirmed. Buzz is tied to the Hand’s presence in the story.
- The Hand: Shown in the trailer fighting Spider-Man, strengthening the case for a Daredevil tie-in, but still not a guarantee.
Until Marvel actually locks the cast in public, any surprise guest — Tobey, Cox, or otherwise — stays in the rumor column and will not be verified until the movie hits theaters.
