Season 37 of The Simpsons wrapped in February after a slim 15-episode run, but Springfield won’t stay quiet for long: Disney plans to drop three fresh episodes this summer, including a double-length special, to bridge the gap to Season 38.

Heads up, Springfield faithful: while we wait for season 38, Disney is slipping three fresh Simpsons episodes into the summer calendar. They are not airing on Fox. They are Disney+ exclusives. One of them is double-length. And the new trailer leans into some seriously weird stuff, including Homer in full clown makeup riffing on a very familiar comic-book villain. If you were hoping to catch these on broadcast, this is not that.

Quick catch-up

Season 37 wrapped back in February with a shorter run than usual — 15 episodes total. No date yet for season 38. Still, the franchise is locked in well beyond that; it has already been renewed through at least season 40. In the meantime, Disney+ is doing what Disney+ does with this brand: rolling out originals between seasons, like they have with previous shorts and specials.

So what are we getting?

  • Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition — premieres June 17, 2026, exclusively on Disney+ (double episode)
Homer and Marge try a fun date night, it goes sideways, and Marge discovers Homer left the kids with... the doorbell camera as a babysitter. Fueled by irritation (and a little wine), she spins up a trilogy of what-if Homers. Guest star: Betty Gilpin. Musical guests: Laufey, and Tegan and Sara.
  • Simpsley — premieres July 3, 2026, exclusively on Disney+
A noir-tinged detour: penniless con-artist Marge Bouvier gets shipped to Italy to lure wealthy pushover Seymour Skinner back home. She gets seduced by the luxe life, but there is a clingy, dim-witted roadblock in Skinner’s villa: Homer Simpsley, an all-time mooch. Expect lies, lust, and a whole lot of lira.
  • Yellow Mirror — premieres August 26, 2026, exclusively on Disney+
Two darker tales: a busted lamp sends Homer down a heartbreaking rabbit hole about what he thinks is real, and an AI tablet befriends (and basically puppeteers) Maggie. If you like your Simpsons with a tech-paranoia twist, this is that.

About that trailer

Disney+ also dropped a preview that goes big on remixing Homer — including a shot of him in full clown-face makeup echoing you-know-who. It looks like they are having fun bending the character into a few new shapes across these specials.

'These three episodes are not season 38 — they are stand-alone Disney+ exclusives rolling out in June, July, and August.'

The fine print (and a tiny gripe)

Yes, locking them to streaming only will annoy anyone who watched season 37 on Fox and assumed the next new thing would show up there. But this is very on-brand for how Disney has handled The Simpsons between seasons lately. If you want these three, you will need Disney+.

Bottom line: three off-season detours, one extra-long, all summer drops, all on Disney+. Season 38 timing is still a mystery, but the show is nowhere near the end of the line.
