The Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 7 Recap: What Happened to Eregion?
The events finally took on a large scale.
Season 2 of The Rings of Power is finally in full swing, so let's take a look back at what happened in Episode 7.
The Orcs Attack Eregion
The orcs lay siege to Eregion, and Sauron takes command of the defenses. The elves rely on the protection of the river, but the orcs attack the cliffs near the city, causing a landslide. The rocks that fall into the river create a passage for Adar's troops to approach the walls.
After learning of the attack on Eregion, Durin decides to take advantage of the situation and orders the miners to dig deeper. But they refuse to obey the king and join the younger Durin and Disa. The lord's son also learns of the siege of Eregion from Elrond, who has made his way to Khazad-dum. He asks his old friend for help, and Durin promises to come to the elves' aid.
Celebrimbor Finds Out Who Annatar Really Is
At first, Celebrimbor believes that all is calm in Eregion – Sauron's spell has affected him. But soon the blacksmith begins to understand that he is under the power of some magic.
When he smashes the window with his hammer, he sees that the city is under siege, and that the mithril Annatar gave him earlier is actually Sauron's black blood. The smith understands who the messenger of the Valar really is.
Celebrimbor tries to warn the elves, but no one believes him. Sauron has managed to convince the others that their ruler has gone mad. Mirdania tries to calm the blacksmith, but the villain enchants Celebrimbor again, and he pushes the woman from the top of the fortress wall. Sauron orders Celebrimbor to complete the Rings, promising to spare Eregion if he does.
Galadriel Escapes Captivity of the Orcs
Lindon's army, led by Elrond, arrives to help Eregion, and Adar has another trump card – the captured Galadriel. The elf is forced to bargain for his friend's life, but the orc leader demands too high a price – one of the three Elven Rings. Elrond refuses and kisses Galadriel on the lips in farewell.
As the orcs watch the kiss, he discreetly hands her a knife to cut the bonds. The elf manages to free herself and tries to escape, disguised as an orc. She is almost caught by guards, but is saved at the last moment by Arondir. Together they make their way to Eregion through secret tunnels.
Durin Is Forced to Make a Difficult Choice
The orcs still fail to breach the walls, and they begin to doubt Adar, who is obsessed with getting rid of Sauron at any cost. Durin rallies the dwarves fight the invaders, but at the last moment he learns that his father has gone mad, killing his own guards and rushing off to dig tunnels himself. Durin is forced to make a choice – help a friend or save his people from the mad king.
Sauron tells Celebrimbor that he intends to finish what Morgoth failed to do. The smith tries to destroy the Rings, but to no avail. Taking all nine human artifacts with him, he flees the tower and stumbles upon Galadriel.
The Elves Cannot Withstand the Orcs' Fierce Attack
After giving the rings to the elf for safekeeping, the smith asks her to lead as many of Eregion's surviving inhabitants as possible through the tunnels. Then, having enlisted the support of the soldiers, Celebrimbor returns to Sauron. The outcome of this confrontation is clear: the warriors die, and Sauron demands the return of the Rings.
Adar sends for Damrod. The mountain troll kills everyone in his path, which further incites some of the orcs against his master.
With incredible effort, the elves manage to deal with the huge monster, but the orcs still outnumber them. Elrond continues to count on Durin's help, and a messenger arrives to report that the dwarves are not coming.
The orcs sweep away the last ranks of the elven defenders and break through the breach in the wall. Adar stabs Arondir with his blade, and takes Galadriel's ring from him.
