Slump or not, the MCU’s greatest flex remains its casting — and Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again is cashing in by rallying fan-favorite Netflix-era stars back into the spotlight.

Marvel has had its rough patches lately, but the one thing they still absolutely crush is casting. When they lock in the right actor, they do not let go. Case in point: the Netflix- era heroes marching back into the fold like they never left.

Why the Netflix crew is back

Nearly a decade after those Netflix shows, Marvel is rebuilding with familiar faces because those performances imprinted on viewers. Charlie Cox basically fused with Matt Murdock in the public mind. Krysten Ritter did the same with Jessica Jones. And if we are talking definitive takes, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle sits near the top of that list. He did not just play the Punisher; he branded the role.

Bernthal is officially back, and he is busy

Bernthal has already punched his ticket back into the MCU with an appearance in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. That was the warm-up. This summer, he is apparently stepping into the larger MCU spotlight in two different projects: his own Disney+ special and a big theatrical team-up.

  • The Punisher: One Last Kill (Disney+ special) — trailer just dropped after a long tease
  • Spider- Man: Brand New Day ( summer blockbuster ) — Frank Castle shows up here too

The new trailer and what it is signaling

After a lot of winking and nudging, the first official trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill finally arrived, and it is not shy about the pitch: this is framing a different angle on Frank Castle. That is a swing, considering Bernthal’s version already felt pretty definitive. Also interesting: Marvel is calling it a 'special' instead of a full-blown series, which suggests a tight, focused story rather than a season-long sprawl.

The bigger picture

Pulling the Netflix veterans back for Daredevil: Born Again always made sense, and Marvel seems to be doubling down. If Cox and Ritter are the proof of concept, Bernthal is the no-brainer extension of it. Slotting him into both a Disney+ one-off and a Spider-Man movie in the same summer is a loud statement: they want Frank Castle in the bloodstream of the MCU again, and they want him there now.

This is a developing story, and I will update as more lands.
