The Modern Sci-Fi Masterpiece You’ve Been Waiting For Is Back on Streaming

Good news for anyone who has been waiting to rewatch humanity flee murderous robots: Battlestar Galactica is finally coming back to streaming, mostly for free, and soon.

Why this still hits

Sci-fi is having a nice little run right now — Apple TV 's Severance keeps vacuuming up awards and Hulu 's Paradise is a ratings magnet — but the 2000s-era Battlestar Galactica is still the benchmark. The Syfy remake of the 1978 ABC series nailed the moment back then: a sharp, propulsive survival story about the last scraps of humanity outrunning the Cylons, a once-subservient machine race that got way too good at being us.

When and where to watch

The drought ends May 1. In the U.S., almost the entire modern Battlestar run lands on Pluto TV for free (ad-supported) and on Paramount+ if you want it all in one place with a subscription. One wrinkle: Caprica only streams on Paramount+. The rollout comes via NBCU Global TV Distribution.

Is the 1978 original included?

No. The 1978–1980 series is not part of this streaming return. If you want it, you can buy episodes or full seasons digitally on the usual suspects like Prime Video and Apple TV.

Bottom line: starting May 1, most of modern BSG is free on Pluto TV, the whole package is on Paramount+, and if you want the prequel Caprica, that one is Paramount+ only.
