Tessa Thompson Teases Possible MCU Return Beyond Avengers: Doomsday
Tessa Thompson hints at a future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but stays mum on Avengers: Doomsday. She also shares her enthusiasm for continuing her role in the Creed series.
For actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, keeping quiet about future projects is almost a job requirement. Tessa Thompson recently demonstrated this skill when asked about the possibility of her character, Valkyrie, appearing in Avengers: Doomsday. With so many big names rumored for the next Avengers installment—including Robert Downey Jr. reportedly returning as Doctor Doom—fans are eager for any hint about who might show up.
Thompson, however, played it close to the vest. When questioned about her involvement, she kept her answer brief and noncommittal, but left the door open for Valkyrie to appear elsewhere in the MCU.
“Oh, [I’m] not able to confirm anything,”
she told The Playlist during a conversation about her Netflix drama His & Hers, where she stars alongside Jon Bernthal, known for his role as The Punisher. When asked if she’d like to step back into that universe, Thompson didn’t hesitate.
“Yeah, definitely,”
she said.
“And I think this is the coolest thing about hanging out inside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: all the incredible people that you get to play with, both the incredible craftspeople that create these worlds, all the amazing directors that they invite into these spaces, and all of the incredible talent. And also, I think there are so many tonal spaces you can go to inside of a Marvel movie. ”
Valkyrie’s Journey in the MCU
Valkyrie has made her mark in four movies and two animated series within the Marvel universe, facing everything from god-slayers to zombies. Thompson’s portrayal has shown that Valkyrie can handle just about any challenge thrown her way. She spoke about the range the character offers, saying,
“You can explore drama and comedy, and there’s so much to do. And I just love the character so much that I would always be interested. For sure.”
Open to More Than Just Marvel
Thompson’s willingness to revisit old roles isn’t limited to Marvel. She’s also enthusiastic about returning to the Creed franchise, where she stars alongside Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed.
“We love those films so much,”
Thompson shared.
“And I think there’s still more to say if audiences want to show up. I think we want to be there for them and with them.”
Whether she’s wielding a hammer or supporting a boxing champion, Thompson is ready to step back into the worlds that made her a fan favorite.
