Disney has officially cast Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim as the stars of its live-action Tangled adaptation, with Michael Gracey directing and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson penning the script. The film reimagines the beloved animated classic for a new generation.

Disney is moving forward with a live-action version of Tangled, and the studio has now locked in its leading stars. Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim will take on the iconic roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, characters first brought to life by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the 2010 animated hit. Croft steps into the shoes of the adventurous princess, while Manheim will portray the charming thief who helps her break free from her tower prison.

The story centers on Rapunzel, a young royal kept hidden away in a tower for years. Her world changes when she crosses paths with Flynn Rider, a quick-witted thief on the run. Together, they embark on a journey across the kingdom, forming an unexpected bond as they face danger and discover new sides of themselves along the way.

New Faces and Familiar Roles

According to Deadline, Croft and Manheim are set to succeed Moore and Levi, who originally voiced the beloved characters. There was recent speculation that Scarlett Johansson might take on the role of Mother Gothel, the film ’s notorious villain known for her show-stopping number,

‘Mother Knows Best’

. However, Johansson will not be joining the cast, and the search for the perfect Mother Gothel continues.

Michael Gracey, best known for directing The Greatest Showman, is attached to helm the project. The screenplay comes from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, though details about how the new adaptation will differ from the original remain under wraps. The project faced a temporary halt after the disappointing box office performance of Disney’s live-action Snow White, but production is now back on track.

Rising Stars Take Center Stage

Both Croft and Manheim bring impressive credentials to their new roles. Croft is recognized for her work on the DC series Titans and the Australian adventure film True Spirit. Manheim, meanwhile, is familiar to audiences from Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise and the Paramount+ series School Spirits. Their casting signals Disney’s commitment to introducing fresh talent to its roster of live-action adaptations.

The original Tangled was a major success for Disney, grossing around $592 million worldwide against a hefty $260 million budget. The film also earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song with

‘I See the Light’

, cementing its place as a modern classic in the studio’s lineup.
