Tim Burton is back in black. Fueled by the one-two punch of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Netflix hit Wednesday, the Gothic maestro is charging into fresh projects—starting with a bold remake of a cinema classic.

Tim Burton is busy rebooting a cult classic, but Sydney Sweeney may have already stolen his thunder with a jaw-dropper of a sequence on Euphoria that basically does the whole thing in five surreal minutes. I did not have 50-foot Sydney Sweeney on my 2026 bingo card, but here we are.

The Euphoria moment everyone is talking about

HBO is airing Euphoria season 3, the show’s final run, picking up with the gang five years after high school. Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) has reinvented herself as an erotic influencer and is engaged to Nate (Jacob Elordi). It feels like a workable, if unorthodox, situation until her rising fame starts to collide with Nate’s potential business deals.

Mid-season spoilers ahead: Cassie splits from Nate and jumps back into her OnlyFans grind, this time with Maddy (Alexa Demie) acting as her manager. In episode 5, titled "This Little Piggy," Maddy pushes Cassie toward more explicit content. Then the show takes a hard left into full-on fantasy: Cassie suddenly grows to skyscraper size, rips out of her content house, and strolls across the city. The sequence caps off with her tracking down a fan in his downtown Hollywood office and flashing him. Yes, you read that right.

It’s absurd and brazen, but it’s not random. Sam Levinson frames it as a metaphor for Cassie’s skyrocketing fame and the ambition devouring everything in her path. It’s also a very intentional nod to the 1958 sci-fi cult favorite Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (starring Allison Hayes), which got a 1993 remake from Christopher Guest with Daryl Hannah in the title role. The homage is going viral right now, for reasons that should be obvious.

Meanwhile, Burton is building his own 50-foot comeback

Tim Burton has been on a heater again: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on the big screen, Wednesday on Netflix, and now a modern take on Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. The project first surfaced in July 2025, and we got an update in February that he’s "well into development."

  • What it is: A contemporary remake of "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman"
  • Star/producer: Margot Robbie
  • Character: Robbie is playing Nancy Archer, same lead role as the 1958 and 1993 versions
  • Status: Reported in July 2025; February update says Burton is well into development
  • Writers: Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan (the "KPop Demon Hunters" duo) are handling a script rewrite
  • Tone/look: Positioned as a revenge movie set now, with chatter that Burton wants to channel the original’s B-movie vibe

Here’s the funny part: Euphoria just planted a big, lurid, instantly meme-able version of that idea in front of millions before Burton’s cameras even roll. That could help prime audiences for his remake, or it could saddle the movie with a very specific (and very spicy) mental image that Robbie and Burton will have to stomp past. Either way, it’s 2026, and somehow we’re all debating the cultural footprint of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman again. Didn’t see that coming, but I’m not mad about it.
