Euphoria’s penultimate episode killed Nate—after Cassie stole the spotlight with a graphic tryst with Homer Gere and a scorched-earth plot with Maddy that primes a combustible finale.

So, Euphoria just dropped its penultimate episode on Sunday, May 24, and the show basically looked at the phrase 'too much' and said, challenge accepted. We got a buried-alive twist, a real snake, and a severed finger in an ice tray. Also: Sydney Sweeney hooked up with Richard Gere's son on camera. Yes, that happened.

The episode in one gulp

  • Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) is scrambling with Maddy (Alexa Demie) to rebuild her OnlyFans following fast enough to scrape together cash and save Nate (Jacob Elordi) from a mobster he owes money to.
  • The plan takes a detour into a very explicit hookup with Dylan, an actor played by Homer Gere — as in, Richard Gere's son — with Sweeney going topless again.
  • Right after, Dylan grabs a glass of water… and the ice scooper serves up a bonus: Nate's finger, which Cassie was, somehow, keeping on hand. Literally chilling.
  • Meanwhile, Cassie secretly posts a photo of her and Dylan to his social media with a spicy caption to send traffic to her sex work. It spikes her numbers — for a minute.
  • Big picture: the scheme doesn't raise money fast enough. Cassie and Maddy can't rescue Nate from the underground box he's trapped in.
  • Final gut punch: a rattlesnake slips into that box and kills Nate. So no, he does not wriggle out of this one.

Nate's last scene was as claustrophobic as it looked

Elordi, 28, shot it in an actual coffin-sized box. His shoulders were pressed against the sides, he couldn't move his arms, and once the crew drilled the lid shut, it went pitch black. He says the whole thing was weirdly serene.

'That was a cool way to go. Nate was someone who has made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices. It's cool to see it all come to what it's come to.'

The stunt team was laser-focused on safety: they made sure he had oxygen and kept the amount of time he was truly sealed in there to a minimum. Credit to Elordi for going along with that setup — not exactly a breezy day's work.

Yes, those were real snakes

Because Sam Levinson apparently never met a practical gag he didn't love, he wanted to shoot it with a real snake. Production brought in both a genuine rattlesnake and a boa constrictor, the latter dressed up with a fake rattle on its tail to sell certain shots. Elordi says hearing rattling while locked in a box was, shocker, alarming.

The boa, on the other hand, was a sleepy softie. Elordi says it cozied up to him and he had to nudge it to get any movement on camera. Hollywood, meet nap time.

Elordi says goodbye to Nate

'It's a bittersweet thing. This show is a massive part of — not just my career — but my life. It's been amazing and I'm so proud of being a part of this.'

About Cassie's OnlyFans pivot (and the nudity)

Plenty of viewers expected Nate to Houdini his way out; his death caught people off guard. The other lightning rod is Cassie's sex-work storyline, which has included multiple full-frontal moments this season. Sweeney, 28, has been clear about where she stands on that front. In a 2025 W Magazine interview, she said:

'I don't get nervous. [I] gained so much confidence and self-awareness on Euphoria. I think that the female body is a very powerful thing. And I'm telling my character's story, so I owe it to them to tell it well and to do what needs to be done.'

So, to recap: a finger in the freezer, a cameo- by-way-of-Homer Gere, a box in the dirt, and a real live rattler. Euphoria is not easing into its finale. It's flooring it.
