Robert Englund has unveiled a first-look teaser for his twisted Pinocchio reimagining.

The killer twist this time isn’t digital wizardry — it ’s wood, wires, and an attitude. Todd Masters, the Emmy-winning effects veteran, built a fully functional animatronic Pinocchio for Pinocchio: Unstrung, giving the slasher’s title terror a real, physical presence. Add Robert Englund as the voice of Cricket and hard-R practical gore, and this take on the wooden boy leans into old-school horror craft over CG gloss.

Now playing in about 1,500 North American theaters .

The movie is rolling out only in theaters for now, opening Friday, July 24, 2026 , as an independent release in wide genre-friendly footprints. U.S. distribution is through Viva Pictures, with no digital or streaming option available at launch.

How to watch

  • Format — Exclusive theatrical run only; no streaming yet.
  • Where — Check showtimes and tickets via Fandango or major chains like AMC Theatres.
  • RatingR for heavy gore and intense horror; under 17 requires a parent or guardian.

On the cast side, genre favorite Richard Brake puts a sinister spin on Geppetto, while Englund’s Cricket supplies a wicked voice of “conscience.” Beyond the bloodletting, the movie threads in dark comedy, inventive kills, and a twisted riff on Pinocchio’s transformation to keep the story feeling unpredictable.

A digital release date hasn’t been announced. Based on typical theatrical windows, a September 2026 premium video- on-demand debut is a reasonable bet, with subscription streaming potentially following in November or December 2026 — but nothing is official yet.
