Spider-Man role axed: Rosario Dawson details the heartbreaking aftermath, saying “I’m a Reject”
If you expected Claire Temple to swing through Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Rosario Dawson did too—until the cameo was pulled, and the surprise stung.
At GalaxyCon Raleigh 2026 , Rosario Dawson told fans she actually filmed a surprise return as Claire Temple for Spider- Man: Brand New Day —only to learn the cameo didn’t make the theatrical cut. The scene, she said, was set in a hospital right after Peter Parker’s fight with Scorpion , and she had even prepped a celebratory post with behind-the-scenes photos before an email landed with the bad news.
“I tell you my post was already ready with my BTS, with my grandson wearing all his Spider-Man stuff cause he loves Spider-Man,” she said at GalaxyCon Raleigh 2026. “Then I got the email, so yea I’m a reject of Spider-Man and I’m a reject of the devil’s rejects.”
Why cut it? According to writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the hospital beat with Claire worked on its own but doubled up emotionally once Peter also went to Bruce Banner for help. With the movie running nearly two and a half hours, the Claire sequence was dropped for pace.
Who is Claire Temple?
Dawson’s character was the connective tissue of Marvel ’s Netflix corner—a no-nonsense nurse who kept patching up street-level heroes. If the cameo had stayed, it would’ve been a nostalgic bridge back to that world.
- Daredevil — Claire Temple
- Jessica Jones — Claire Temple
- Luke Cage — Claire Temple
- Iron Fist — Claire Temple
- The Defenders — Claire Temple
Dawson said she still hopes Claire finds her way back on screen, but for now, her shot day on Brand New Day lives off-camera—along with that unused family photo of her grandson in full Spidey gear.
Streaming window
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hit theaters on July 31, 2026. Under Sony’s typical U.S. Netflix “Pay-1” window of about 120 days, the movie is expected to land on Netflix around November 2026, with the date possibly sliding into December based on scheduling. Netflix generally gets the same version that played in theaters, so don’t expect Dawson’s scene to appear there.
