The new Spider-Man Noir live-action show will offer both a classic black-and-white version and a special color edition inspired by the era, as revealed by producer Christopher Miller.

The highly anticipated Spider-Man Noir live-action series is set to deliver a fresh take on the iconic Marvel character, offering viewers two distinct visual experiences. Producer Christopher Miller recently clarified that, while the show was crafted with a black-and-white aesthetic in mind, fans will also have the option to watch a color version designed to reflect the style of the 1930s. Miller explained on Twitter,

"It was shot and designed to be in black and white – and there will also be a color version that has been designed in an exciting and unique period-inspired way. So there is no 'main' version."

Two Versions, One Vision

Starring Nicolas Cage, the series brings back the brooding, monochrome Spider-Man variant first introduced in the animated hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Earlier this year, a leaked trailer gave fans a glimpse of Cage in the role, but official details remain scarce. The cast also features Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, and Jack Huston, promising a strong ensemble for this unique adaptation.

The official synopsis describes the show as a live-action adaptation of the Spider-Man Noir comics, following an older, down-on-his-luck private eye in 1930s New York. Cage’s character is forced to confront his past as the city’s only superhero, adding a gritty, noir edge to the Marvel universe.

Capturing the 1930s Atmosphere

Actor Lukas Haas, who appears in the series, shared insights into the filming process, revealing that both black-and-white and color versions were always part of the plan.

"When we filmed it, the monitors were all black and white, so you got this feeling and it looked very, very authentic. To the point that I would actually go and look at the monitor and think I was looking at some older footage, but it was actually just a monitor of what was on the camera at the time. They did a beautiful job with the filters and all that stuff, making it look like genuine old 1930s, black and white film. But obviously, just the writing, and Nic is incredible. It’s just a really fun project and I cannot wait to see how it turns out,"

Haas said.

The creative team’s commitment to authenticity is evident in their use of period-appropriate filters and visual techniques, aiming to transport viewers straight into the heart of Depression-era New York. The dual-version approach allows audiences to choose between a classic noir look and a vibrant, era-inspired color palette.

What’s Next for Spider-Man Fans?

While excitement builds for Spider-Man Noir, fans are also keeping an eye on the next chapter in the animated Spider-Verse saga. The third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, has been pushed back to a 2027 release. At CinemaCon 2025, directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson teased new images and footage, hinting at a storyline where Miles Morales is on the run.

As of now, there’s no official premiere date for Spider-Man Noir, but anticipation continues to grow as more details emerge about this bold new vision for the beloved superhero.
