Fresh off an Emmy win, Apple TV is sticking with Slow Horses, ordering another season.

Apple TV+ has ordered an eighth season of Slow Horses, and it already has its playbook: Clown Town, the ninth and most recent Slough House novel, released last September. According to the official logline, Season 8 shoves Jackson Lamb and MI5’s Diana Taverner into their fiercest showdown yet after a failed blackmail scheme aimed at MI5 headquarters pushes Taverner onto the attack, forcing Lamb to expose one of the agency’s deepest secrets to settle the score.

The pickup lands on the eve of the Season 6 premiere and builds on a previously announced Season 7 that will adapt Mick Herron’s Bad Actors . The espionage drama is anchored by an ensemble led by:

  • Gary Oldman — Jackson Lamb
  • Kristin Scott Thomas — Diana Taverner
  • Jack Lowden — River Cartwright
Director Saul Metzstein just won the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for Season 5’s finale, “Scars.”

The book gap

Season 8 will pull the show even with the published novels, and Herron’s tenth Slough House installment doesn’t yet have a title or a release date. That could interrupt the series’ unusually steady year‑to‑year release rhythm after Season 8.

Apple has bucked streaming habits by greenlighting future runs well in advance and keeping the drops annual. If Herron finishes the tenth book in the next couple of years, there’s room to tee up a potential ninth TV season without a long break.

Season 6 premieres Wednesday, September 16 on Apple TV+.
