A tense thriller starring Mikey Madison, an indie drama from Sean Baker, and a flop that became a classic.

A few days ago the program for the 78th Cannes Film Festival was announced. Let's not forget last year's main winner and Oscar winner, Sean Baker's Anora.

We've put together a list of films that are worth watching if you're looking for something with a similar mood and atmosphere, or just want to see your favorite actors on screen again.

1. All Souls, 2023

River, a young mother played by Mikey Madison, is raising her daughter alone and is willing to do anything to give her a decent life. Hoping to provide for her child, River gets involved in a dangerous business – selling drugs.

One day, she falls into the hands of the police and, in a desperate situation, agrees to become an informant and work undercover. But things do not go as planned: River finds herself in the middle of a criminal hell.

After a miraculous escape, she returns home but cannot find her daughter. Despair gives way to rage – now River is willing to kill for the sake of her child.

2. Spring Breakers, 2012

A group of college girlfriends decide to have some fun: drinking, partying, robbing a cafe for the sake of traveling – and here they are in Florida.

There they meet the Alien – a drug dealer with grills, guns and a strange philosophy. He draws them into a world of crime. Faith stands out from the crowd –she is quiet, religious and a little lost.

She is the only one of her friends who begins to understand that having fun at someone else's expense always ends badly. But the other girls give in to the high without thinking about the consequences.

3. Tangerine, 2015

When Sin-Dee gets out of prison, the first thing she learns is that her pimp boyfriend is cheating on her. Together with her friend Alexandra, they take to the hot streets of Los Angeles to find the homewrecker.

The day, filled with comedy, drama and unexpected encounters, seems to never end.

Tangerine made history as the first movie shot entirely on the iPhone 5s. Sean Baker made a movie for pennies that went to Sundance and was loved by viewers. All the scenes were shot live, without blocking the streets, and some episodes were born on the fly.

4. Showgirls, 1995

An ambitious blonde named Nomi arrives in Las Vegas, a city where dreams always seem to come true. But reality hits her in the first few minutes: the driver who offered her a ride disappears with her belongings.

Lost, almost hit by a car, Nomi meets a kind girl named Molly who offers her shelter and help. Thus begins Nomi's rise in the cruel world of show business: first a job in a cheap club, then an elite erotic show.

The movie became one of the biggest flops of the year: critics tore it apart and viewers completely ignored it at the box office. Over the years, however, Showgirls has been reborn – first as a cult classic, then as an ironic manifesto against the American dream.
