Seth Green Shares Disturbing Childhood Incident With Bill Murray
Seth Green opens up about a shocking experience with Bill Murray on SNL, revealing a troubling side to the beloved comedian that few have seen.
For decades, Bill Murray has been celebrated for his roles in classics like Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, and Lost in Translation, earning a reputation as a comedic legend who can also handle dramatic parts. However, behind the scenes, stories have surfaced that paint a much less flattering picture of the actor. Over the years, Murray has faced numerous accusations of inappropriate and difficult behavior, including heated arguments with co-stars and even allegations of sexual misconduct. One particularly unsettling story comes from actor Seth Green, who described a traumatic encounter with Murray when he was just a child.
Allegations and Controversies
Murray’s off-screen reputation has been marred by several incidents. He reportedly clashed with Lucy Liu on the set of Charlie’s Angels, and more recently, he settled with a crew member who accused him of unwanted advances during the filming of Being Mortal. According to reports, Murray straddled and kissed the crew member without her consent, leading to a payout. These are just a few examples of the many claims and documented episodes that suggest Murray’s behavior can be far from charming.
Seth Green’s Childhood Memory
Even young actors have not been spared. Seth Green, who started his career as a child, recounted a disturbing memory from when he was nine years old. Appearing on Good Mythical Morning in 2022, Green described his experience on Saturday Night Live, where he participated in a segment about kids’ thoughts on Christmas. Murray, a former SNL cast member, was hosting that episode. Green recalled,
“When I was nine years old, I did a spot on Saturday Night Live when Mary Gross was one of the on-the-scene anchor people for the news, and she did a whole thing about what kids think about the Christmas holiday.”
An Unsettling Encounter Backstage
Green explained that while waiting backstage, he sat on the arm of a couch, unaware that it was Murray’s preferred seat. The actor took offense, and Green remembered thinking,
“That is absurd. I am sitting on the arm of this couch. There are several lengths of this sofa. Kindly eff off.”
Despite his mother ’s suggestion to move, Green didn’t see the harm. Murray insisted,
“He was like, ‘That’s my chair.’ Are you this much of a jerk? This rude to tell a nine year old to get out of your chair. What is this power play?”
Instead of handling the situation calmly, Murray chose a more aggressive approach. Green recalled,
“He picked me up by my ankles. Held me upside down…He dangled me over a trash can and he was like, ‘The trash goes in the trash can.’ And I was screaming, and I swung my arms, flailed wildly, full contact with his balls. He dropped me in the trash can, the trash can falls over. I was horrified. I ran away, hid under the table in my dressing room and just cried.”
The incident left a lasting impression on Green, highlighting a side of Murray that fans rarely see.
