Scrubs is officially scrubbing in for Season 2 — or Season 11, depending on how you count — after its ABC and Hulu revival scored an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, topping the original.

Scrubs is scrubbing back in. ABC and Hulu have officially ordered another round of the revival, which you can call Season 2 or, if you like to count straight through, Season 11. Either way, it earned it: critics were into it, ratings were strong, and the network clearly wants to keep the momentum going instead of disappearing for a year.

The quick version

  • Renewed: Scrubs Season 2 is happening at ABC and Hulu
  • When: Fall 2026, exact date TBA, which means only a few months between seasons
  • Why it was a no-brainer: 89% on Rotten Tomatoes and a ratings hit; that score even tops the original run, which is weighed down by the much-maligned Season 9
  • Story setup from the Season 1 finale: the Janitor is back to mess with J.D., and Dr. Cox is sticking around Sacred Heart as a patient
  • Episodes: 10 this time, one more than Season 1, still a short order
  • Cast logistics: more John C. McGinley as Dr. Cox is already on deck; Judy Reyes should be freer to pop in as Carla since High Potential is not back until mid-season 2027

Why the fast return matters

These days, long gaps between seasons are the rule, especially for shows living on streaming. Scrubs is straddling that line between streaming and broadcast, so a fall 2026 return is legitimately good news. It keeps the goodwill from Season 1 warm and gives ABC a steady comedy presence people can actually count on week to week. Also, getting cameras rolling sooner helps dodge the scheduling snags that limited cameos and returning faves the first time around.

Where Season 1 left everyone

Season 1 ended with two swing doors wide open for Season 2: the Janitor re-entered the chat and immediately resumed harassing J.D., and Dr. Cox, of all people, is now at Sacred Heart as a patient. That is a clean, character-first setup with plenty of ways to twist the knife and the jokes at the same time.

The one gripe: episode count

Ten episodes is a slight bump from last season, but still not exactly a feast. The revival introduced new faces who could use more runway, and there is plenty of unfinished business with the legacy cast. A few extra episodes would let the show balance case-of-the-week absurdity with ongoing arcs instead of picking one lane per week. Maybe ABC adds to the order later, but as of now, it is another breezy run. That is the only real downer here.

Scrubs streams on Hulu. I will update when ABC drops the exact fall date.
