Sandra Bullock is making her way back to Hollywood after a personal tragedy. With the support of close friends and new projects on the horizon, she’s finding her footing again. Discover how she’s navigating her return and what’s next for the beloved actress.

Sandra Bullock is easing her way back into the film industry after taking time away to grieve the loss of her longtime partner, Bryan Randall, who passed in 2023 following a lengthy struggle with ALS. Surrounded by trusted friends like Nicole Kidman and Keanu Reeves, Bullock is finding the comfort and encouragement she needs as she reenters the Hollywood scene.

Finding Strength Through Friendship and Support

According to those close to her, Bullock is still coming to terms with life without Randall, who was described as her soulmate and closest companion. She’s been leaning on a tight-knit circle of friends, including Kidman, Reeves, and Jennifer Aniston, to help her through the toughest moments. One insider shared,

There are still hard days, when she really misses Bryan and feels lonely. She’s still adjusting to life without him. She’s still mourning. She’s coming back to life, but it ’s still one day at a time. Thankfully, she has some really incredible people around her to help carry it.

Spending time with Kidman and the original producing team from their 1998 film, Practical Magic, has been especially meaningful for Bullock. The source noted,

Spending time with Nicole and some of the original film’s producing team, which was largely women, was fantastic.

Bullock wanted to reconnect with those who could lift her spirits, and the reunion provided just that. In a 2021 interview, she reflected on how supportive Randall was when she adopted her daughter Laila, describing him as patient and a positive role model for her children.

Reuniting With Nicole Kidman for a Magical Sequel

Bullock and Kidman are teaming up once again for a sequel to Practical Magic, the beloved fantasy film based on Alice Hoffman’s novel. While the original movie didn’t fare well at the box office, it has since developed a devoted following. News broke in June 2024 that both actresses were in talks to reprise their roles, with Susanne Bier directing and a script from Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett.

Filming for the sequel began in July 2025 and wrapped up by September. Returning cast members include Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing as the Owens sisters’ aunts, with new faces like Joey King and Maisie Williams joining the project. Producer Denise Di Novi has promised that the new film will honor the spirit of the original while bringing something fresh for today’s audience. The sequel is set for release on September 18, 2026, just in time for Halloween.

New Collaboration With Keanu Reeves

In addition to the Practical Magic sequel, Bullock is reuniting with Keanu Reeves for a romantic thriller at Amazon MGM Studios. The pair, who previously starred together in Speed and The Lake House, are set to headline a new project written by Noah Oppenheim. Details about the plot remain under wraps, but the film is being produced by Mark Gordon, who worked with the duo on Speed.

While Bullock is making her return with these highly anticipated projects, Reeves has kept busy with roles in Ballerina, Good Fortune, and a voice part in the AppleTV+ series Severance. Bullock’s last film before her break was The Lost City, which grossed nearly $200 million during the pandemic era.
