As The Way Home nears its final act, Sadie Laflamme-Snow is already eyeing spinoffs — including a deep dive into Alice and Nick’s age-gap romance — teasing unresolved questions between the time-crossed pair in an exclusive chat with Us Weekly ahead of the April 18 return.

Hallmark's time-travel family saga The Way Home is heading into its last stretch, but Sadie Laflamme-Snow already has a spinoff idea she would happily pitch. In a chat before the show returned on Saturday, April 18, the 26-year-old star said the unanswered what-ifs between Alice and Nick are still living rent-free in her head.

Sadie's spinoff pitch: back to that first 90s summer

Laflamme-Snow gets why fans (and yes, her too) are still fixated on Alice and Nick. She is not trying to reignite the age-gap drama in some wild way, but she thinks there is a very specific corner of that story worth revisiting: the early days.

"Back to the 90s - that first summer - would be so cute."

She also made it clear she feels the current series has done the work it needed to: if this really is the end, she is not walking away feeling like the show left gaping holes. That said, a tidy goodbye does not mean fans are done shipping Alice and Nick.

Wait, how did Alice and Nick even happen?

If you jumped in late: The Way Home (premiered in 2023) follows three generations of Landry women who discover a pond on their property that lets them time travel. Alice finds it first and ends up back in the 1990s, spending time with her mom Kat when Kat was Alice's age. That sends Alice right into the orbit of teen Kat (Alex Hook), teen Elliot (David Webster), and their friend Nick.

The show walked a careful line with the Alice/Nick connection because, well, time makes things messy. In the 90s they are peers. In the present, not so much. The writers leaned into that awkwardness in a grounded way: in the small town, adult Alice and adult Nick occasionally collide and try to act like strangers even though history says otherwise. Laflamme-Snow has praised how the show handled that dynamic without making it feel off.

  • Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) discovers the pond and is our way into the past.
  • Kat Landry is played by Chyler Leigh in the present and Alex Hook as teen Kat in the 90s.
  • Elliot is Evan Williams in the present (41) and David Webster as his teen self.
  • Nick shows up in two timelines: Samuel Braun as teen Nick in the 90s, Kerry James as Nick in the present.

The show has always been about what we do with the past

Evan Williams (41) has said the heartbeat of the series is not just 'can we change the past?' but 'should we change our relationship to the past so we can live better now?' That theme runs right through Alice and Nick's near-miss romance and beyond. The characters want things their hearts want; the show then makes them sit with the consequences. Sometimes they do not get what they thought they wanted, and that feels honest.

Headed for the finish line, but aiming to leave no one hanging

As for how it all wraps, Chyler Leigh (44) is playing coy: the creative team had a limited runway, but she says co-creators Heather Conkie, Alexandra Clark, and Marly Reed worked to tie up as much as possible. Laflamme-Snow agrees, calling the season intentional and very tuned to what fans actually care about. The goal, according to her, is simple: do not leave viewers twisting in the wind.

When to watch
