Rom-com fashion time capsule takes over Lili Reinhart's 'Love Hypothesis' tour
Rom-com fans, brace yourselves—The Love Hypothesis press tour has become an homage spree, and wait till you see who’s driving it.
On August 27, Lili Reinhart quietly kicked off a full-on rom-com fashion tribute with what her team dubbed “The Olive Soft Launch.” The look: a pink, cropped cashmere-wool Claire Cardigan from Leo Lin’s Resort 2027 collection, dotted with floral appliqués, layered over a white tank and paired with the brand’s ivory, bow-belted Nori Mini Skort. Stylist Ib Abdel Nasser told Marie Claire the outfit’s “silhouette, patterns, and cheekiness” pulled straight from the cardigan-and-mini-skirt clique in 1999’s Jawbreaker—with Reinhart’s high ponytail nodding to her Riverdale alter ego, Betty Cooper.
Those references weren’t one-offs. Reinhart’s press run for The Love Hypothesis is doubling as a rom-com time capsule, with each stop channeling a different heroine ahead of the movie ’s Prime Video debut. Her character this time, Olive Smith, is getting a runway of predecessors to lead the way.
Three throwback nods
- Jawbreaker (1999) — “The Olive Soft Launch”: Leo Lin Claire Cardigan in pink cashmere-wool with floral appliqués, white tank, and Nori Mini Skort with a bow belt. Abdel Nasser cited the look’s “silhouette, patterns, and cheekiness” as a direct lift from the movie’s queen-bee aesthetic.
- How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) — The butter-yellow moment: While promoting in Brazil, Reinhart wore a long, butter-yellow silk gown echoing Kate Hudson’s Andie Anderson. Per Abdel Nasser’s comments to Elle, the dress was a 2000s Caché replica of the original Carolina Herrera gown created for the film with costume designer Karen Patch.
- Ever After: A Cinderella Story (1998 ) — Fairytale in the Alps: In Germany’s Bavarian Alps, Reinhart stepped out in a custom Rodarte—an ethereal grayish, empire-waist gown with delicate embroidery, a strapless neckline, and sheer sleeves—channeling Drew Barrymore’s storybook vibe.
“you probably think this song is about you... paying homage to Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”
That caption—set to Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain”—accompanied Reinhart’s yellow-gown photos, leaving zero doubt about the inspiration.
And there’s more coming. Abdel Nasser says the tour will keep “paying homage to the leading ladies of the Golden Age of rom-coms and romance films” as Reinhart crisscrosses the globe to promote the movie.
The Love Hypothesis premieres on Prime Video on September 23, 2026 .
