Robert De Niro may be about to hit the red carpet at his own festival—and Amy Poehler is all for it.
Robert De Niro says he’s carving out time for a full-on rewatch of his own movies. On Good Hang with Amy Poehler, he kicked around how to do it — either start at the very beginning of his career and go forward, or work backward from his most recent work — with the aim of simply sitting with the films again.
“That would be like your own festival,”
Poehler told him, framing the plan as a one-man retrospective.
It would be a big festival. De Niro’s filmography stretches past a hundred titles, and his hardware — two Oscars and a Golden Globe, plus a stack of BAFTA and Emmy nominations — covers half a century of work across drama, crime epics, and comedy.
The SNL table-read effect
In the same conversation, Seth Meyers shared a memory from early SNL days about De Niro sitting in on table reads. According to Meyers, De Niro’s laugh landed so reliably — sometimes at nearly every new joke — that writers started to feel like even unfinished sketches were ready for air.

Meyers said, crediting that enthusiasm with giving the room a lift.
As for the home “festival,” De Niro hasn’t settled on the viewing order — chronological or in reverse — but the plan is set: revisit the work and watch it through.
