Rhea Seehorn opens up about Carol’s unpredictable actions in the Pluribus season 1 finale, exploring the uncertainty and impulsiveness that define her character’s pivotal decision.

Pluribus star Rhea Seehorn recently shared her thoughts on the jaw-dropping final moments of the show’s first season, where Carol makes a bold move that could reshape everything in the next chapter. If you haven’t seen the season 1 finale yet, be warned—major spoilers ahead.

In the closing scenes, Carol finds herself in a dark place. The revelation that the eggs she once froze with hopes of starting a family with her wife Helen (played by Miriam Shor) are now being used by The Others to force her into their collective consciousness, and all without her permission, leaves her reeling. The episode’s title, ‘La Chica o El Mundo’—which translates to ‘The Girl or The World’—reflects the impossible choice Carol faces: pursue her own happiness or try to save everyone else.

Carol’s Dilemma and a Dangerous Alliance

As the pressure mounts, Carol forms a tense partnership with Manousos (Carlos-Manuel Vesga), setting the stage for a dramatic showdown. In a twist that echoes a joke from episode three’s explosive ‘Grenade,’ Carol arranges for an atomic bomb to be delivered right to her neighborhood. This shocking image is sure to spark debate among fans until the next season arrives.

When asked about Carol’s mindset in that critical moment, Seehorn admitted that even she doesn’t have all the answers.

“I honestly don't know. I made peace with [that]. Even if Vince [Gilligan] was saying we don't know where we're going with it, usually as an actor I would make an intentional decision about what I think Carol's plan is.”

Uncertainty at the Heart of Carol’s Actions

Seehorn went on to explain that Carol’s unpredictability is a core part of who she is.

“Maybe this makes me a horrible actor,” Seehorn laughs. “I honestly think Carol is not sure. I didn't do it out of laziness. I did it because one of her flaws – that sometimes is a superpower – is that she's so impulsive. She's just so impulsive and acts before she thinks. I think she knows she's got to do something big, and I'm not really sure what's going to do with it.”

With Pluribus now streaming on Apple TV, fans are left to wonder what Carol’s next move will be and how her impulsive decision will ripple through the story. The finale’s ambiguous ending ensures that speculation will run wild until season 2 drops.

Looking Ahead to Season 2

As viewers dissect every detail of Carol’s choice, the show’s future remains wide open. The uncertainty surrounding her actions adds another layer of intrigue to a series already packed with twists and moral dilemmas. For those eager to see what’s next, the wait for season 2 just got a lot more intense.
