Record $329,400 sale of his WrestleMania card leaves John Cena conflicted
John Cena says selling his WrestleMania card wasn’t the easy win you’d think—while Peacemaker’s DCU future still isn’t settled.
On the red carpet at the Matchbox premiere, Entertainment Tonight told John Cena that a rare autographed card tied to his final WrestleMania appearance had just sold for $329,400—a record price for a wrestling trading card. His face said it before he did: surprise, then a careful attempt to process how a tiny piece of cardboard just fetched supercar money.
“It’s weird. I hope the person that use their resources has a lot of joy and connection to whatever they acquired.”
Cena said he gets that there are ultra-wealthy collectors out there, but wondered aloud whether parts of the collectibles market have floated beyond any sensible valuation. A noted car enthusiast, he framed it as passion versus price, adding that things only matter because people attach meaning to them—memories, stories, connection.
Peacemaker rumors
The same night, Cena was asked if his helmeted antihero Christopher Smith might pop up in James Gunn ’s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. His answer was pure, unfiltered confusion.
“When did he say this?”
Cena said he talks with Gunn regularly—right down to trading Peacemaker-inspired merman emojis—so the idea that an appearance had been announced caught him off guard. For now, there’s no official confirmation that he’ll be in the film.
What has been made clear: Gunn has said Peacemaker Season 2 connects directly to the new Superman movie. Season 2 left Christopher Smith stuck in Salvation after Rick Flag Sr. arranged his imprisonment, a cliffhanger that tees up a direct line into the DCU ’s big-screen plans without guaranteeing who shows up where.
- David Corenswet — Superman
