JoAnna Garcia Swisher finally weighs in on whether Reba alums Scarlett Pomers and Mitch Holleman — both on acting breaks — might pop up on Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman’s NBC hit Happy’s Place.

If you were hoping JoAnna Garcia Swisher might spill whether Scarlett Pomers or Mitch Holleman are swinging by Happy's Place, the answer is basically: not her call. She just popped in for a guest spot and, like the rest of us, would love to see more familiar Reba faces... but the casting machine is complicated.

So what did JoAnna actually say?

Asked on Monday, April 20 by People whether Pomers, 37, and Holleman, 31, might turn up on Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman's NBC comedy, Garcia Swisher, 46, made it clear she does not control who gets invited. She was simply thrilled to be asked herself earlier this month, and she acknowledged there are a lot of moving parts behind the scenes. Translation: she is rooting for it, but this is a producer-level decision.

Quick refresher: what was Reba again?

The original sitcom ran from 2001 to 2007 and centered on Reba McEntire as a single mom rebuilding after her husband, Brock, played by Christopher Rich, left her for his dental hygienist, Barbra Jean, played by Melissa Peterman. Garcia Swisher played Reba's pregnant teen daughter, Cheyenne, with Steve Howey as Cheyenne's boyfriend-turned-husband, Van. Pomers and Holleman, who played Kyra and Jake, were core parts of the family but have mostly stepped out of the spotlight since the show ended.

Who from Reba has shown up on Happy's Place so far?

  • Garcia Swisher guest-starred earlier this month. She is game for more reunions but emphasized she is not the one making those calls.
  • Plenty of Reba alums have checked in on Happy's Place, which McEntire, 71, leads with Peterman, 54.
  • The big one: Christopher Rich returned in February 2025 after taking years off acting following a major stroke. He told Us Weekly at the time that recovering felt like a hard reset, and that after leaving the hospital he developed blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, and debris on his heart. He also dropped 50 pounds and said his appetite just is not what it was, but he felt good and was back at work.
  • At 72, Rich was candid about what coming back meant for him and why it might open doors:

It is great to be able to be a disabled person and play a disabled person. I am hoping that when some of this gets out there, people I have worked with will say, OK, let's bring him back. We can work with him.

Reba on bringing Chris back

McEntire later described Rich's return as a priority for the show's producers - Kevin Abbott, Mindy Schultheis, and Michael Hanel, all alumni of Reba - and said in May 2025 that it genuinely mattered to him. In her words, it let him come back to a job and a group he loves, and the feeling was mutual. She called it a blessing for everyone involved.

Where to watch

Happy's Place airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and streams the next day on Peacock.
