Patrick Muldoon's Love Life, Uncovered: The Romances That Shaped Him Before His Death
Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place star Patrick Muldoon died at 57, his manager confirmed in April 2026, as his sister recounted he went to take a shower after sharing coffee with his girlfriend.
Patrick Muldoon is gone at 57, and the tributes are pouring in. He kept a lot of his personal life low-key, but he also let enough slip over the years that we can actually chart his love life without reading tea leaves. Here is what happened and who mattered to him, with the messy parts explained.
What we know about his passing
Muldoon, best known for Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, died in April 2026. His manager confirmed the news to Variety. His sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, told TMZ that on the morning he died, he had coffee with his girlfriend, Miriam Rothbart, at their Beverly Hills home. He went to take a shower, and when he was in there longer than expected, Rothbart checked on him and found him unconscious on the bathroom floor. Paramedics were called and tried to revive him.
Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard Segel, who runs global sales and distribution at Muldoon’s company, Storyboard Media, offered this tribute to Us Weekly:
"Heaven got another angel far too soon." She called Muldoon "the most amazing person."
The relationships, the timelines, the context
-
Miriam Rothbart — Muldoon and Rothbart kept things pretty private, but he did mark their two-year anniversary on Instagram in August 2025. He said they had been together for two years and joked about the night he convinced her to be his girlfriend. Rothbart was with him at their Beverly Hills place on the morning he died and was the one who found him and called for help.
-
Denise Richards — They met making Starship Troopers in 1997 and dated on and off for years, splitting around 2000 after what Richards has described as nearly five years together. They stayed close until his death.
Richards has talked about the bond for years. On The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2019, she mentioned they had goofy nicknames for each other from the Troopers set. She also explained there was a long pause in their friendship while she was married to Charlie Sheen (they split in 2006). Near the end of that marriage, she reconnected with Muldoon and leaned on him; later, when she married Aaron Phypers, he had no issue with the Muldoon friendship — unlike Sheen, who did.
In March 2025, on her show Denise Richards & Her Wild Things, Richards’ daughter, Sami Sheen, wondered aloud if Muldoon still had feelings for her mom, noting he could come off flirty. The speculation did not last long: in October 2025, Muldoon told Tori Spelling on her MisSpelling podcast that he and Richards dated on and off in the 90s, but it had been just friendship since — and he confirmed he was in another relationship at the time.
-
Tori Spelling — On a 2025 episode of Denise Richards & Her Wild Things, Spelling and Richards compared notes and realized Muldoon is a mutual ex. Richards recalled Muldoon once telling her he was dating Spelling and could not see her then, which, yes, made Richards jealous.
-
Lisa Rinna — Rinna says she and Muldoon had a brief fling while shooting Days of Our Lives. On the People in the 90s podcast in July 2021, she described it not as an affair but as a couple of one-night stands — made extra surreal by the fact Muldoon was playing her brother on the show. That is exactly as awkward as it sounds.
-
Juliette Binoche — File under unexpectedly glamorous pairing: The Irish Times reported that Muldoon and Binoche dated from 2003 to 2005 and then again in 2024. Neither of them ever talked about it publicly.
Muldoon did the 90s heartthrob thing, sure, but what stands out here is how many of these relationships turned into long-term friendships. Even with the occasional eyebrow-raising detail, the through line is the same: people who knew him genuinely liked him — and are going to miss him.
