Paramount has axed the planned Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spin-off, Sam and Victor’s Day Off, which would have followed two characters taking Cameron Frye’s Ferrari for a wild ride. The move comes as several projects are dropped after the Skydance Media merger.

Paramount has decided to halt production on a spin-off inspired by the classic 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The project, which had been in development under the working title Sam and Victor’s Day Off, was set to explore a single day in the lives of two characters who take Cameron Frye’s iconic Ferrari for a joyride. The original movie starred Alan Ruck as Cameron, whose prized car played a memorable role in the story.

Studio Merger Triggers Project Cancellations

Earlier in 2024, before the merger between Paramount and Skydance Media was finalized, the spin-off had reportedly received the green light. David Katzenberg was rumored to be attached as director. However, following the completion of the merger, the new leadership has opted to shelve the project. According to reports, Sam and Victor’s Day Off is just one of several films that have been dropped as the studio undergoes significant changes.

Other Films Also Scrapped

Alongside the Ferris Bueller spin-off, another movie titled Winter Games has also been abandoned. This film was set to feature Miles Teller, who recently appeared in Eternity. Additionally, a science fiction blockbuster about Area 51, which was to be directed by Colin Trevorrow and produced by Ryan Reynolds, has been taken off the slate as well.

New Directions and Controversial Choices

Despite these cancellations, Paramount has recently approved the development of Rush Hour 4. This decision reportedly came after pressure from President Donald Trump, who played a role in approving the merger between Paramount and Skydance. The original Rush Hour director, Brett Ratner, is expected to return to the franchise, despite facing multiple allegations of sexual assault and having been largely absent from Hollywood in recent years. Ratner is currently working on a documentary about Melania Trump for Amazon MGM Studios, which is scheduled for theatrical release on January 30, 2026.
