Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2? Ewan McGregor is still pushing to make it happen
If you want more Obi-Wan Kenobi, so does Ewan McGregor.
At a red-carpet stop for his upcoming film The End of Oak Street, Ewan McGregor told E! News he’s still pushing to return as Obi-Wan — pointing to the wide-open stretch between the Disney+ limited series and the Jedi’s elderly years played by Alec Guinness. McGregor said there’s rich story left in Obi-Wan’s Tatooine exile that the 2022 show only began to tap.
“I want to do and spend the rest of my career doing these stories. I've got 10 years before I'm Alec Guinness's age. So come on, Disney.”
That 10-year window is the crux of his pitch. The limited series ended with Obi-Wan back on Tatooine keeping a quiet watch over Luke, still a decade or so away from the events of A New Hope and Alec Guinness’s take on the character — a gap McGregor says is ripe for more adventure.
Where things stand
As for an actual greenlight, McGregor acknowledged nothing has moved forward yet with Disney+ or Lucasfilm. He suggested that fan enthusiasm could help tip the scales.
Creator-director Deborah Chow has previously said McGregor was pitching her ideas for a second season while they were still wrapping the first. Chow focused on finishing the limited series at the time, but hasn’t ruled out returning if the story and timing line up.
Obi-Wan Kenobi also has numbers on its side: it ’s been one of Disney+’s most-watched Star Wars shows, trailing only The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett on the platform — another reason fans think a comeback isn’t out of the question. There’s no official word from Lucasfilm on more episodes.
For now, McGregor is out promoting The End of Oak Street with Anne Hathaway. Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered in 2022 as a six-episode limited series on Disney+; a second season has not been ordered.
