Netflix greenlights new Parasyte series from Yeon Sang-ho
Yeon Sang-ho is juggling an adaptation at Netflix with broader world‑building for his own Colony saga, laying out the approach and why the two tracks make sense together.
Shioli Kutsuna is stepping into the skin of Ryoko Tamiya, a parasite who starts out cold and clinical and then slowly turns that gaze inward, asking whether humans and parasites can actually share a world. The new live-action chapter, Parasyte: Tamiya, leans into that uneasy question with a darker, more intimate tone — and the series is already in post-production.
Behind the camera, the key players from the most recent expansion of the franchise are back, with a mix of Korean and Japanese talent steering this spinoff toward a character-first story.

This series picks up the baton from Parasyte: The Grey, which ended after neutralizing its immediate crisis but deliberately left the larger human–parasite standoff unresolved. Tamiya’s arc pushes that idea further: identity, survival, and whether coexistence is possible when two species share one body — or one planet.
Yeon has pointed to Tamiya’s crisis of existence as the franchise’s emotional core, while Kutsuna has called the part the most demanding role of her career. The creative team is pitching this as a more unsettling, philosophical dive rather than a nostalgia play.
Yeon’s bigger universe
Beyond Parasyte, Yeon is also broadening his own zombie mythology. He says his film Colony will continue as a multi-platform project with new characters and a more action-driven look at the genre’s evolution — first as a novel, then as a video game. As he told Screen Daily:
“There is something in the works that we could call a sequel to Colony, which is in the form of a novel. That novel will be the basis of a video game.”
According to Yeon, the book is already in its final stage, and writing it opened creative possibilities he couldn’t fit into a film.
