Mistaken for Matt Damon? Brad Pitt recounts the mix-up and laughs it off
Brad Pitt says he was mistaken for Matt Damon — and the way it unfolded is genuinely funny.
At a recent screening for Heart of the Beast, Brad Pitt told the crowd he once answered the door for a Postmates delivery and, when the driver asked his name, he couldn’t resist leaning into a long-running joke: he introduced himself as Matt Damon — and the guy totally bought it.
“I started grabbing my food, and he goes, ‘Tell me your name again.’ And I go, Matt Damon. And he is like, ‘I knew it, dude. I knew it.’ Yeah, I go, ' Yeah, tell your friends,'” Pitt recalled.
World Cup mix-up
The story lands extra funny after a high-profile case of mistaken identity this summer: during the 2026 World Cup final, FOX Sports’ John Strong spotted Matt Damon in the stands with wife Luciana Barroso — and called him Brad Pitt on air.
“Brad Pitt among the fans here,” Strong said, before broadcast partner Stu Holden corrected him.
Viewers went to town on social media, but the whole thing stayed good-natured — especially in light of Pitt’s own Damon gag.
Wahlberg’s “close enough”
He’s not the only one who’s rolled with it. Back in 2015, a fan mistook Mark Wahlberg for Damon and took photos with him. Wahlberg didn’t correct her; when she realized later and posted about it, he popped into the comments with two words: “Close enough.”
Celebrity doppelgänger confusion isn’t rare — Rupert Grint has said he’s routinely mistaken for Ed Sheeran — but few handle it with the same deadpan flair Pitt brought to that doorstep handoff.
