Screenwriter Jason Fuchs reveals that Michael Bay’s planned Lobo film would have pushed boundaries, describing it as a hard-R spectacle that would have made Deadpool seem tame.

Jason Momoa is set to bring the notorious antihero Lobo to theaters in Supergirl , but years ago, the intergalactic bounty hunter nearly headlined his own explosive adventure. Michael Bay, known for his high-octane blockbusters, was once attached to direct a solo Lobo film. Screenwriter Jason Fuchs recently opened up about just how wild that project could have been.

Bay’s Vision: A No-Holds-Barred Lobo

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast with Josh Horowitz, Fuchs described the tone and intensity of the abandoned Lobo movie. He didn’t hold back, saying,

"It was a hard-R, psychotic movie. Very violent. It made Deadpool look like a Disney family film. Which is probably why it ultimately didn't get made."

The script was designed to push the envelope, with a level of violence and irreverence that would have set it apart from other comic book adaptations.

A Tarantino-Style Space Adventure

Fuchs compared the film’s style to a mashup of Guardians of the Galaxy and a Quentin Tarantino flick, hinting at a wild, unpredictable ride through the cosmos. The movie would have leaned into Lobo’s chaotic personality, delivering a story packed with dark humor, over-the-top action, and a rebellious spirit that’s rare in superhero cinema.

Why the Project Never Happened

Despite the bold vision, the project never made it past the development stage. The extreme tone and graphic content likely played a role in its demise, as studios weighed the risks of releasing such an intense film. Still, Fuchs’s comments offer a glimpse into what could have been—a comic book movie that would have shattered expectations and redefined the boundaries of the genre.
