Marvel’s reported Mutant Saga explained — and where MCU Phase 7 stands

If you’re trying to map out your Marvel rewatch, here’s the clean answer: MCU Phase 7 hasn’t begun. It won’t start until after Avengers: Secret Wars wraps the current arc in December 2027. Between now and then, Phase 6 is still rolling with films already on the board — capped this winter by Avengers: Doomsday.

Who’s in Doomsday?
The crossover pulls in heroes from the Fox-era X-Men films, an alternate-timeline Fantastic Four, and familiar Avengers — with Robert Downey Jr. positioned as the central threat, playing Doctor Doom. The roster reportedly includes names fans haven’t seen share the same screen before:

What Phase 7 looks like
Once Secret Wars closes the book on Phase 6, Marvel’s next chapter is expected to pivot hard to mutants — a multi-stage Mutant Saga with the X-Men at the center. Jake Schreier is attached to direct a rebooted X-Men movie with a younger team, and the MCU has already planted seeds on Earth-616 with characters like Kamala Khan and Jean Grey.
Marvel has already staked out theatrical dates into 2029, pointing to a Phase 7 kickoff soon after Secret Wars lands in December 2027.
