From scream queen to send-up, Melissa Barrera could be swapping slashers for spoofs as Marlon Wayans teases a possible Scary Movie turn.

So, this is fun: Marlon Wayans is openly into the idea of Melissa Barrera popping up in a future Scary Movie. Given her recent Scream stint and the long, messy overlap between those two franchises, that tracks a little too well.

What Marlon actually said

Wayans was reacting to Barrera’s past comments about wanting in on the Scary Movie revival when he told Variety he would have tried to make it happen if he’d known sooner. Then he teased the door is still wide open and basically pitched it himself.

"Maybe for Part 7!"

He even called the idea a "masterful cameo. "

Translation: he missed the timing for Scary Movie 6, but he’s not pretending the next one is off the table.

Why Barrera is a no-brainer for this

Barrera didn’t just headline the recent Scream entries; she did it as Sam Carpenter, Ghostface’s latest favorite target and, oh yeah, Billy Loomis’s daughter. She’s been living in that sweet spot of legacy horror, trauma, and twisty reveals — exactly the kind of material Scary Movie loves to roast without mercy. And the new Scary Movie isn’t shy about targets: there are 11 horror movies already confirmed as parody fodder in Part 6. Scream is baked into this franchise ’s DNA; adding one of the faces of its modern run is basically begging for jokes to write themselves.

She put the idea out there first

Right after her very public exit from Scream 7, Barrera said joining the restarted Scary Movie sounded like a blast. More than a year later, Wayans is out here saying he would’ve welcomed her and is already nudging toward a future cameo. Timing is everything, but the enthusiasm is clearly mutual.

The Scream-to-Scary pipeline is real

If Barrera does show up in Scary Movie 7, she wouldn’t be the first Ghostface survivor to stroll into parody territory. This has been a thing for decades, both on screen and behind the scenes:

  • Tori Spelling played the movie-within-the-movie version of Sidney in Scream 2’s Stab, then turned up in Scary Movie 2 as Alex Monday.
  • Jenny McCarthy reportedly passed on an opening in the first Scary Movie, did Scream 3, then circled back for Scary Movie 3 anyway.
  • Anthony Anderson was Mahalik in Scary Movie 3 and 4, then later showed up as Officer Perkins in Scream 4, and returned again when the parody series came back.
  • And the original connective tissue: Kevin Williamson’s Scream script was literally titled "Scary Movie" before it became, well, Scream.

So... is this actually happening?

Nothing official. Scary Movie 6 is the one moving right now; Wayans is teasing Barrera for a potential Part 7. The nice part is there’s precedent all over the place and both sides clearly dig the idea. If the schedules line up and the joke lands, don’t be shocked when it happens — shocked if it doesn’t.
