Lucy Liu Raves About Joining Forces With Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep in Devil Wears Prada 2
Lucy Liu says the Devil Wears Prada sequel will clear the high bar, delivering a hit of nostalgia that leaves fans more than satisfied.
Lucy Liu knows the sequel bar is sky-high, and she sounds convinced The Devil Wears Prada 2 clears it. Also: no divas on set, the fashion is back, and Liu is using the press tour to push something real-world important.
The expectations (and Liu is into it)
Liu, 57, talked up the movie on Thursday, April 9, while she was out promoting her partnership with Pfizer on its Every Breakthrough Matters campaign. She gets that nostalgia-fueled sequels come with baggage — and says bring it on.
"There is a high bar for this... I really feel like they're going to want to see it more than once."
That tracks. The original 2006 film — based on Lauren Weisberger's novel — set a look, a tone, and a thousand Halloween costumes.
Where the sequel picks up
Here’s the setup this time: Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway ) finds her way back to Runway, while Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) is wrestling with a very modern media landscape. The old sparring partners reconnect with Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) to prop up a struggling brand. Liu is part of the new cast joining that core trio.
On-set vibe check: chill, punctual, professional
Asked what it’s like working with Hathaway, Liu did not serve drama. She says Hathaway and Streep are easy, everyone shows up when they’re supposed to, and there’s zero entitlement. In other words: a set that feels like a family mostly because you live there for months, and the professionalism actually matches the legend. No divas, apparently. Which, yeah, fair.
The fashion (because of course)
Liu didn’t get to keep any of her looks, but she’s not mad about it — the clothes live forever on screen, and that’s the point. Translation: the sequel is not skimping on wardrobe.
Marketing so far
Early promo has leaned right into the nostalgia hit: a teaser shows Andy reuniting with Emily, and a trailer even takes a playful swipe at Hathaway’s eyebrows. Oddly specific, but sure — this franchise has always loved a sharp aside.
Off-screen, Liu is pushing cancer screening
While she’s gearing up for the premiere, Liu is also fronting Pfizer’s Every Breakthrough Matters campaign to get people into screenings and to remind folks that early detection saves lives. She’s been through a false positive breast cancer diagnosis herself, and her message is basically: health isn’t just salads and the gym — keep your regular checkups, advocate for yourself, and maybe don’t rely on doomscrolling to diagnose anything. You also can’t DIY a mammogram at home, so go get the preventive stuff done. If you need a starting point, Pfizer has a screening guide at PfizerForAll.com/screenings, where you can see what might apply to you, book directly, or bring the info to your doctor.
Release date
