Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy has sparked fresh excitement for Star Wars fans, hinting that the long-discussed Hunt for Ben Solo film might not be off the table after all. Could the story of Han and Leia’s son finally get its day?

There’s a new glimmer of hope for Star Wars fans eager to see more of Ben Solo’s story. The much-rumored Hunt for Ben Solo film, once thought to be shelved for good, may still have a shot at making it to the big screen. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently suggested that the project, which would focus on the conflicted son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, isn’t entirely out of the running.

Back in October 2025, Adam Driver revealed that he, director Steven Soderbergh, and screenwriter Scott Z. Burns had pitched a post-The Rise of Skywalker movie centered on Ben Solo. Despite their efforts, Disney ’s top brass, including CEO Bob Iger and co-chairman Alan Bergman, ultimately passed on the idea. But Kennedy’s latest comments have reignited speculation and hope among the franchise ’s devoted followers.

Behind the Scenes: Scripts and Surprises

Speaking to Deadline, Kennedy shared some insight into the current state of Star Wars projects.

“I've got to tread a bit carefully here. [James] Mangold and Beau Willimon wrote an incredible script, but it is definitely breaking the mold, and it's on hold,”

she explained.

“Taika has turned in a script that I think is hilarious and great. It's not just my decision, especially when I've got a foot out the door. Donald Glover has turned in a script. And as you have read, Steve Soderbergh and Adam Driver turned in a script written by Scott Burns. It was just great. Anything's a possibility if somebody's willing to take a risk.”

Her remarks suggest that while the studio is juggling several bold ideas, nothing is truly off the table if the right creative vision comes along. The Hunt for Ben Solo, once dismissed, could still find its way into the Star Wars universe if someone is ready to champion it.

Support from the Star Wars Family

It’s not just fans who are rooting for Ben Solo’s return. Rian Johnson, who directed The Last Jedi, has openly expressed his support for the project, saying he hopes it gets made. Daisy Ridley, who played Rey, also weighed in during an interview, sharing her appreciation for the fan movement behind the film.

“I do love when there is a collective of positivity. The way the internet seems to have rallied to try and get it to happen. I think it's fantastic for us all. It's good for us to all be united about something in a really positive way. Obviously, everyone knows he was a very popular character, but it was also lovely to think, 'Wow, people really, really care and want this,'”

she said.

“I just... I like it. I like when people join forces – excuse the pun – from all around the world, all different sorts of people.”

What’s Next for the Galaxy Far, Far Away?

With so many creative minds involved and a passionate fanbase eager for more, the future of Star Wars remains as unpredictable as ever. Whether or not The Hunt for Ben Solo moves forward, the door is clearly open for new stories and bold risks in the galaxy far, far away.
