Kevin Feige promises Avengers: Doomsday won’t end on a cliffhanger, with Secret Wars close behind
Kevin Feige is stoking excitement with a promise about Avengers: Doomsday’s ending — and the wait before Secret Wars.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2026 , Marvel boss Kevin Feige hinted that the way Avengers: Doomsday wraps up will set off a year-long drumroll to Secret Wars. Speaking with TheMovieReport.com, he said the ending is designed to land big and point directly to the next film.
“I don't want to spoil anything, but I think fans will be incredibly satisfied and yet incredibly surprised by where it 's headed. And then we'll all have a hard time waiting a year for the next one,” Feige said.
In the same interview, Feige described Doomsday as an event built to corral decades of Marvel storytelling under one roof, calling it “one of the most ambitious films the studio has ever made.” He said the film will pull together characters and realms from across Marvel’s movie history.
A bigger crossover
Per TheMovieReport.com’s read of Feige’s comments, that mash-up includes legacy heroes from the Fox-era X-Men films alongside mutants introduced in the current MCU, plus the Fantastic Four arriving from a different corner of the multiverse. Within the story, Marvel is positioning the roster to span the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Wakandans, the New Avengers, and a few veterans of the original Avengers lineup — all facing a common enemy: Doctor Doom, reportedly played by Robert Downey Jr.
Two-part finale
Doomsday kicks off a two-movie climax to the Multiverse Saga, laying the track for Avengers: Secret Wars, which Feige indicated will land about a year later and close out Phase 6. A first teaser for Doomsday has already started the hype train, with Marvel promising crossovers that go bigger than anything the MCU has attempted on screen.
